edited July 2021 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

I am 58yo with dense breasts. Healthy. Go every year for mammo and ultrasound - occasionally I get a callback for additional images but everything always OK. No history of any bc in family. This time, mammo was OK but radiologist saw something on ultrasound - deep in left breast according to my Dr. Now need an MRI. My dr thinks it may be residual swollen lymph node as a result of my covid vaccine - but I had that in March - 15 weeks before mammo. she says she has been seeing a lot of swollen lymph nodes. Vaccine was on left side. Anyhow, I am very worried. Anyone have any insight? Positive thoughts?

    Hi sbrons!

My new 2nd favorite saying is "never borrow sorrow from tomorrow," but my first remains the same: "be prepared." Both are up to you, but you've got a head start on being prepared because you've already found this site. SOOOO helpful! I recommend first just browsing the information part of the website to get a sense of what decisions you would have to make - and quickly in many cases - should you get the news you don't want to get. Lots of people on these discussion boards can help you if and when you get a diagnosis, but first off is becoming informed of your options so you can make good decisions for yourself and your health.

So, try not to worry at this point. It's very very possible that it will turn out to be nothing. But if for no other reason than giving yourself something productive to do, go do some learning. That will keep the fear of the unknown at a reasonable level. Then, if you have to, come back for support. We'll be here.

Take care and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

    Anne

Hi sbrons! Sending support your way.... This is a scary time as you wait for final word on whether there is reason for concern or not. It does seem too long for a swollen node to be vaccine-related. There are also other reasons (besides cancer) nodes can swell so I'm hoping that ends up being the case for you! Best with the MRI and please let us know when you get results. Actually when you get the MRI scheduled too.....

Sbrons really glad you are in such careful hands and pursuing the MRI just to make sure everything is good. As you are probably aware, dense breast tissue should be imaged carefully and MRIs should be considered as part of even routine evaluation depending on your density levels. You are taking all the key steps in ensuring you are proactively managing your health.

We are so new into the impacts of Covid and the vaccine - here is hoping that the larger node is just related to that. Certainly it is in the realm of possibilities. Wishing you all the best and let us know how things go.

My MRI is scheduled for July 19th. So at least it is soon and I will have more information. So anxious and keep thinking the worst - hard to stay calm.

Thanks for letting us know sbrons! Hopefully you will have at least some success distracting yourself the next 10 days, while the worry will be there too at different levels.

sbrons, try to do as many fun things as possible between now and your MRI, even if it's just watching silly movies. I found it really kept me from worrying too much.

I am circling back as I had my MRI on Monday and just spoke to my dr. The radiologist thinks it is just a cyst. I need to go back in 6 months for another ultrasound. I am very relieved and appreciate the good thoughts here!!
