How is this possible?
hi - I posted in possible second cancer, but I'm hoping some knowledgeable folks may have an answer for me
AB ultrasound showed 7mm hypoechoic mass with vascular flow and he described'legs' which I think means spiriculated? This was last week.
Got MRI results today and no mass found.
Tomorrow meant to go in for biopsy - if they can find it.
So last week my drs were saying it looks like a new primary cancer and then today they say it's good news and almost certainly not cancer.
I'm so confused. it's hard to embrace good news after research double mastectomy all week.
What are the chances the mri dr did a poor job?
I ask that, not against him or anything, but that I saw the mass clear as day on the screen in the ultrasound. The dr was clearly using his brave ' you have cancer' but we can't confirm u til after biopsy face.

i had the biopsy today. Does anyone have info about false negatives on MRIs? I read quite a bit yesterday and didn’t like what I read.
Feeling verytense. Hope biopsy results came in quickly.

I’m glad that they were able to see this on the ultrasound and that you were able to get a biopsy to get an answer here.
Did you get any feedback on this situation? Did they say that this sometimes happens? I’ve always thought the MRI saw it all, but obviously not in this case. I’m curious how this all shakes out. Hoping it winds up being something benign!
I had a situation where the ultrasound didn’t see a papilloma because of a shadow but the MRI saw it. It’s interesting to me that the MRI was the scan that didn’t see it. Please let us know how this turns out

False negatives can happen with any screening modality, and unfortunately are much too common with mammograms and ultrasounds. They do happen with MRIs, but my understanding is that the rate is much lower. False positives are a greater concern with MRIs.
Hope the biopsy is benign!

kathabus - thanks. My RO was estatic saying there’s nothing there, no cancer. My MO was cautious and said false negatives happen and he has seen it before - with his wife.
Apparently those with a BRCA have a greater chance of a false negative MRI. I do not have that gene by the way.

there’s a lot of articles out there, this is just one of them.Anyhow, fingers crossed. No matter what I think I want the bmx, I can’t go through this again.

thank you beesie
yeah, I suppose that’s why most people are checked by more than one type of machine right? My mammogram was negative last year - ultrasound got it. So do the MRI though.

Wishing you well Ladyc!!!! These times are difficult enough without adding this additional stressor to the mix.... Hopefully you hear soon on the biopsy - unknowns are more difficult than knowing... even if it's "bad news" we can then plan for that. Hopefully you get good news though you're certainly preparing yourself which makes sense too....

thank you LivinLife!
Dr called and said they won’t get results until Tuesday as per the pathologist.
Biopsy site didn’t hurt Thursday or yesterday but today is very sore. I wonder if I overdid it? Cleaning and vacuuming.
Also realizing my mental health isn’t great - feeling super unmotivated to celebrate this weekend. Seems like such an effort.

Benign! Phew. Stromal Fibrosis. Thank goodness.
Still looking for consults for BMX though.

I’m so glad to hear this
