Hi,

I'm new here but not to breast issues. My dear mother passed away from BC in 2017. I've dealt with fibrocystic breast changes, microcalcifications, and whatever this is now (I had something really similar about 12 years ago) . I'm terrified that this is BC. I'm 45, I had a complete hysterectomy 11 years ago, no HRT.

I have what seems like an inflamed vein or cord-like lump very near the surface, superficial. It's below my right nipple. It is kind of sore, but I also have been poking and prodding at it. It becomes more inflamed the more I mess with it. I missed my mammogram in 2019 and in 2020 because of COVID. I am kicking myself for being neglectful. Frankly I'm a mess, I have two teenage girls and a husband and I don't want to leave them like my mother left us. :(

I saw my primary today, she told me that it's not overtly suspicious but because of my mom's history (she was also my mom's primary doc) she's going to fast track a referral for diagnostic mammogram.

She also noted some discoloration at the underside of the right breast - but that's not really new to me...that's also where my underwire bra rubs. However, now I'm second guessing. What if it is related?

I can't even think straight. I'm relieved to get this looked at but sick to my stomach at the same time. Has anyone had anything similar and it was benign?

Thanks so much for taking the time to "listen." I wish you all good health.

Kari

    Kari,

I have no experience with what you describe, just wanted to wish you well as you go forward. It’s all scary and overwhelming. I am awaiting mybiopsy report and feeling so apprehensive. Just know you are not alone and will get lots of information and support here.

Hi Kari! I'm glad you went to your PCP. Hopefully you can get diagnostic mammo scheduled soon... let us know when you get a date for that. Do what you can not to poke and prod as well. It may just create inflammation if there isn't some there already - will just aggravate things which you don't need at screening either. Do what you can to take care of yourself while you're waiting on the mammo and then results. focus on things you enjoy, what helps you relax, etc. even if the worry remains at a greater level too. check out some of the lighter forums/threads on this site like humor/games, cats, dogs, exercise..... check out some funny videos on YouTube... Every now and then I look up funny cat videos - they are just tooo funny!!!
