Weird taste with neuropathy episodes

I had a unilateral mastectomy a little over a year ago. One of the complications is neuropathy. It is a itching/burning feeling that I can't scratch because it occurs where I'm numb from the mastectomy. The strange thing is that I will also get the taste of dirt in my mouth. I didn't get chemo or radiation. Is this normal?

The weird taste is probably not related to the cancer or surgery. Have you asked a dentist or ENT doctor?

    The itchy isprobably nerve regeneration.

I get weird tastes every so often (like dirt, or sometimes metal), I haven't been able to link it to anything specific and my blood tests don't point to anything. This started right after double mastectomy and continues to this day.

The itching and little shocks and pinches I still get 6 years after my double Mastectomy. I also get a kind of heightened stimulated tingling of nerves throughout my entire body once in a while. All of these things used to freak me out - but now I just wait for them to pass.

I assume some is nerve regeneration, and scar tissue issues from double Mastectomy. Some is from nerve damage due to chemo and I have no idea what causes the weird taste in mouth BUT it hasn't killed me yet so...

    Onwards.

The itching might be nerve regeneration or it could be phantom itching. Both are pretty common.

daenerys, are you on an AI? trinigirl, I see from your signature line that you are. The weird taste in your mouth might be from the meds. Dry mouth, metallic taste, unpleasant taste are all known side effects.
