Hi,

How often do you see your breast surgeon after mastectomy and reconstruction? Are we supposed to get an MRI to check the integrity of the implants? I only see my Obgyn.

Thank you

I saw my breast surgeon once, about three weeks after surgery, and that's it. I've seen my plastic surgeon (who did the reconstruction) numerous times: two days after surgery, a week after surgery, two weeks after surgery, two months after surgery, and six months after surgery. We are talking about doing some fat grafting later this year, as well. My plastic surgeon said that an MRI would be done two years after the surgery to check the implants.

I saw my breast surgeon about 10 days after my BMX in November 2020 and again the beginning of June and will see her again in December. After that I will likely see her annually. That is her protocol. She has been my breast surgeon for over 10 years from the 1st time I needed a fine needle biopsy in 2008.
