Micro calcifications years after breast cancer
I’m worried as I had breast cancer in each breast both early stages 0 and stage 1 (Er/pr positive) and I had rads, lumpectomy, sentinol node biopsy (nodes clear) and took Tamoxifen for 5 years) and now 11 years later, the right breast (which was the stage 1) ha micro calcifications showing up on the mammogram. I got a call back mamo appt scheduled next week and I’m worried all over again, terrible feeling! I thought this was gone and I’d never have to face this again! I know I shouldn’t jump to conclusions but has this happened to anyone before? Thank you

Hi Madeline— I just went through something similar, although it’s only been a year since my last diagnosis. This time it turned out to be benign. It was fat necrosis which is common after injury like surgery or radiation. Apparently it takes a long time to form calcifications and be visible on mammogram. I remembered I had hit that breast on the top of a lower cabinet door a few years ago so it made sense. Hoping the same for you.

Thank you Jetcat I appreciate your feedback! I had implant replacement surgery just this past July 2020 and PS did a lot of work of the right breast as I had capsular contracture so I’m hoping it’s benign resulting from recent surgery. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to get way worried!

Thank you so much for your positive words. I’m so stressed out with anxiety about this upcoming diagnostic mammogram- last 2 times it turned out early BC (each breast took a turn with 4 years inbetween) now, 11 years later I have to go back to have the right one re-checked! So nerve wracking. Well thanks again and glad I’m back here as I found this site in 2006 and was very helpful. Praying it’s just scar tissue as I had my implants replaced July 2020.

Wishing you well Madeline! Please let us know how things go....

Hi guys sorry I took awhile to tell you my results but the Radiologist said the calcifications look normal and probably there due to recent implant surgery (I had capsular contractor in the right one) and PS worked more on that side. I’m so relieved but.. they said to come back in 6 months to make sure no changes .. I’m telling you sometimes I don’t ever want to go back .. it’s mentally exhausting to say the least. I am thankful for a 6 month reprieve!

Thanks so much for letting us know Madeline! I'm happy for you and hoping 6 months from now also leads to no changes or concerns!

Yay!! I'm so glad for these good results, and try not to worry about six months from now yet. That's for future you to worry about, and you can trust her that she'll deal with it because you've proven that to yourself over and over again already.
