Has anyone had a mammogram that had suspicious linear macrocalcifications and had the result be benign? My mom has a biopsy today and I am sick with worry.

I"m not even sure anymore how my abnormal mammogram read.... I just want to send support to you and your mom! She will do all right with the biopsy - ice, ice, ice today at least. The waiting for results will be difficult.... no way around it.... do what you can to engage in relaxing and/or enjoyable things the next few to several days while waiting. You will still worry though it will still help to varying degrees. Please let us know when you hear of results....

Hi Naymas— are the calcifications macro or micro? Macro are more likely benign and could just indicate secretory calcifications. Micro are more indicative of malignancy, although there’s still a chance they could be benign as well. I had fine linear calcifications that did end up being DCIS so I spent a lot of time reading about them. I think that usually anything found just from calcifications on mammogram are most likely DCIS or very early IDC as worst case scenario.

Good luck to you and your mom

    Unfortunately they are micro.

Yes, they wouldn’t normally biopsy the macro ones. Still, hang in there—still could be benign or very early and treatable. I just had some weird calcifications come back benign and a good friend had the same experience last month.
