Worried about moms lung mets please shed some light!

Options

Hi everyone

my mom was diagnosed with stage 2 her 2 positive last year. She's currently on tdm1 finishing up her treatment. When mom was initially diagnosed they had seen small nodules on her lungs which they said they were not worried about, she had another ct scan prior to surgery in November and the nodules were still the same size after chemo as in there was no change.

My moms always tired and has mouth sores, with tingly feet and numbness. I am hoping these are the affects of tdm1. Her doctor said these are non specific symptoms and shes had a radilogist look at another ct scan. The doctor gor the results and said they look fine but she wants the radilogist to look over it just incase she is missing something.

I have been googling and making myself go crazy all weekend thinking she is gonna have lung mets and I am going to loose her soon. I feel very distressed and sad and don't know how to kick the feeling until the results come. Are there any symptoms with lung mets that women experience?

Any advice would be great.

Thank you

Sonia

A lot of people have lung nodules and as long as they're stable, they don't mean anything. I've got a few and they're just sitting there. My MO said they're very common as a person gets older, we just don't know they're there until we get scanned for something else.

    Sonia,

Although it is not easy, please try to stay away from Dr.Google. His credentials are not first rate. I would also try not to leap to the worst possible scenarios when you have no evidence to support them. Deal with what you know at the moment because the “what ifs" will drive you crazy.

Lastly, we have forums for family and caregivers that might help you as they are or have been in your shoes. Those of us on the stage IV forum are dealing with stage IV mbc but we may never have cared for a loved one with bc. As to symptoms, that's a mixed bag. Some have symptoms, some don't. Take care and here's a link to family/caregiver threads:

I understand it's worrying, but what I can say is that the fact that the nodules have remained the same through chemo is a good thing. If they had changed, then it may have indicated the chemo was working on them, which means they could have been suspicious. I had a few of these show up in scans and was so relieved to hear that they didn't change after chemo.

Spalta, I’m sorry your mom is going through this.

I currently am dealing with bone metastases. I’ve had lung nodules on numerous scans. They are just kind of there. I’m talking over numerous years. It was only my last one where there was some slight increase, just a few mm. My oncologist said it was not an indication of progression, just something to monitor. I had Covid in January and the nodules may even have been affected by that, I don’t know. That there was no change to your mom’s nodules sounds promising.

As exbrnxgrl says, you’re better off not scaring yourself with Dr. Google. It sounds like you’re hoping for the best and trying to brace yourself in case of bad news. Very understandable.

Your mom’s treatment most definitely is giving her side effects of fatigue, mouth sores, neuropathy. Her body is taking a hit with powerful medicine. It takes time, as in months, to recover from that and her symptoms will more than likely diminish over time. Mine did. I’m not sure if you’ve visited the chemo threads on this forum, but there’s a wealth of information shared there and may even be a thread specifically for ladies doing the tdm1 chemo.

Deep breathing exercises and getting out in nature to clear your head are good ways to help you cope. Your mom is fortunate to have such a caring daughter. Take care and let us know how things are going.
