I will begin Taxol treatment in 4 weeks, I am very nervous about the nephrology side effect. Any suggestions for a way to prepare for for minimal or no side effects?

Thanks,

Sara

Do you mean neuropathy by any chance? Or are you meaning kidney health?

Thanks for clarifying. Yes I meant to say neuropathy.

ok, so for the neuropathy you will want to explore icing.

I'd suggest your join the Weekly Taxol thread. Read back starting from maybe page 408 - that should give you a good idea of what people experience and how they handle the side effects.

    Hi Slowrymom.

Icing my hands and feet during taxol treatments seems to have worked for me. I’m about 1.5 years out from my last taxol treatment, and I haven’t experienced any neuropathy. I had my treatments before covid, so my partner was able to accompany me to my treatments. We took an ice chest full of flexible blue ice packs and we wrapped my hands and feet (we used long athletic reusable stretch wraps to wrap the ice packs). If the ice packs warmed up, my partner would replace them with new colder ones. I also protected my skin with rubber gloves and thin socks. It was an ordeal, but the nurses were really helpful. I don’t know if it isnecessary to keep the hands and feet as cold as I kept them, but we wanted to do what we could to limit neuropathy.
