Caught a Cold before surgery

I'm on treatment path, tests done, met all Drs, surgery set 6/15 and now my step daughter brought home a coughing cold/virus that spread through the house including me. It's a pretty light cold for everyone but me. I'm hacking up a lung and feel like a truck hit me. I’m vaccinated for COVID.

Is there a correlation between cold virus severity and cancer (pre-surgery)? I feel my body is fighting cancer already so a cold might hit me harder

Not sure about the cancer-cold severity connection, but stress can definitely mess up your immune system and lead to more lingering illnesses and, as someone recently diagnosed with cancer, I wouldn't be surprised if you were a good deal more stressed than usual.

Are you receiving neo-adjutant chemo? I think that's the only thing a cold could interfere with pre-surgery. I'd keep your surgeon's office updated on it in case they'd be concerned about lung issues for anesthesia if you still have it then.

prior to my diagnosis and surgery, I was so incredibly tired. I felt that my body was tired from the stress and from the cancer. I’m usually a very active person, walking 5 miles a day, gardening, cleaning, busy busy busy. But during this time period I’d be able to have some days like this but other days I had to nap.

So yes I think it’s possible the cold is hitting you harder.

    Take care
