I've had bad allergic reactions to 2 of the 3 CDK drugs. My Onc said that if I get this reaction to 2 of them I would get the same for the 3rd. He has decided to only keep me on Faslodex and Zometa with lab work, scans and cancer marker testing every 4 weeks. Is that enough? I'm scared my mets to spine is going to get worse. Has anyone had any good results with just those two drugs?

    Hi Deamo, so you only have spine mets? Can those be treated with SABR or traditional rads?

    Just to the spine and I have had no worsening of the cancer. I really feel very good actually. My Onc has never mentioned rads at all. Would that be the next thing if things get bad?

    It's not just for when things get bad. You can treat with radiation & then maintain systemic therapy to try to control any stray cells which are floating around. It's true they often offer rads when there's pain or the cancer is progressing, but you can also get rads or SABR to just nuke them dead. It depends a bit on the presentation of your mets - just a couple biggish or lots of littles spread around etc.

    You might be what they call oligometastatic & that can be treated aggressively with locoregional treatments; studies are ongoing but it appears to offer some OS advantage. There's an ongoing trial called SABR COMET which has published some very positive results with using SABR to treat oligomets.

    Thank you. I'm reading up on that oligometastatic. I have never heard of it before. Does the <5 mean body parts or actual spots?

    So, I was just posting on the clinical trials thread that it's an area where we don't have good internationally accepted definitions so the <5 is not even universally accepted. But there are usually 2 components to the definition for a trial - the number of actual spots and the number of affected organs. Almost always when the <5 is mentioned it's referring to spots
