Nipple dimple

hello, I am having a panic attack right now and needed a place to go. My left breast has always been larger than my right. About a year and a half ago I noticed that when I lifted my arm my areola would develop a bit of a dent, almost like the nipple was kind of folding over sideways. My nipple is off center there. I mentioned it to my dr and I had an ultrasound and she said at the time no worries but she did notice a reactive lymph node there. A few months later I began to feel stabbing pain under armpit and by my breast. A second ultrasound revealed yes a reactive lymph node. That was all. She asked me to monitor it and see if it was related to my cycle. It seemed to be. Lately it’s been hurting a lot and I’m still obsessed with the dimple in my areola. But when I called her she said she couldn’t do any scans or mammograms because I had the covid vaccine a few weeks ago and it would skew the results.

I’m just panicking and I’m at the point where I just want to go into the walk in clinic and at least have them look at my breast or feel for a lump. I haven’t seen a doctor face to face in 14 months because of covid and I need reassurance more than anything.

I don’t know if this dimpling is normal. I asked my husband and he said hasn’t it always done that? I know I noticed it a year and a half ago. But I don’t know about before.

My breast is bigger than the one in the right and was my primary breast for when I nursed my two children but that ended about 4 years ago. I am 39 years old.

BC doesn’t run in my family but cancer in general does, and I’m scared.

    Dear Aelinore,

We are so sorry that these breast issues and the worry that they cause have brought you here. We are glad that you reached out to our members. We hope some others will come along soon to offer support around the worry that changes can bring and how to manage such. Would it be possible to make an appointment with your doctor simply to have her examine you again. Let them know that you are very scared and need their input even if they are not advising imaging right now. Keep us posted on what you learn.

I spoke to her on the phone last week and she isn’t seeing anyone in person. She recommends waiting until after my 40th birthday which is in November to get any testing done to make sure I’m not just reacting to the vaccine (second dose end of august). I have decided I may just visit a walk in to have a doctor even just look and feel and let me know if they think it looks or feels wrong. I’ve put in a request for another phone call but it can take up to 2 weeks or more to hear back from my regular doctor and Inthe meantime I’m stressed out.

I’ve had a prominent dimple on one of my breasts and after doing a mammogram, u/s and biopsy it turned out to be just fibrous tissue pulling that part of my breast inward if that makes sense. I think anytime we hear about dimpling we automatically think it’s BC, but my dr said many times it’s because of fibrous tissue pulling on it. I wouldn’t worry about it IMO.

thank you so much for taking the time to reply and offer your experience it really means a lot.

I ended up going to my local hospital walk in. The dr there did an exam and while he felt no lumps he said that I was clearly in profound discomfort and the shape of my nipple concerned him. He gave me a requisition for an ultrasound but asked me to wait until the first week of June to make sure that it’s not just a vaccine reaction. I am glad he took me seriously and that hopefully I’ll have answers soon. I just lost my dad to cancer last year and I’m on extreme high alert.

I appreciate you taking the time :)

I'm glad you were able to be seen and get a US to get concerns evaluated further. I don't think wanting a US is unreasonable... It's a nice middle ground to know you can get the scan and also wait until you're in a better spot regarding vaccine reaction... Please let us know how things go...
