Efficacy of Pertuzumab to treat metastasis breast cancer.
All,
I am from India. My mother 59 Years of age was diagnosed with Her2 +ve metastasis breast cancer (metastasis with Lungs alone). she is currently being treated with chemo therapy and targeted therapy drugs(trastuzumab alone).
Here are my questions,
How does Pertuzumab(perjeta) helps to treat metastasis breast cancer? as she was treated with 3 cycles of chemo and targeted therapy(trastuzumab), can we start with pertuzumab from the 4th cycle ?
Also, how long both the pertuzumab and trastuzumab will be advised?, I heard it is going to be 1 year Therapy. However, from posts here people are prescribed with this therapy for more than 5 to 6 years.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Hello and welcome to the community. For metastatic HER2+ positive breast cancer, treatment with Herceptin is “forever” I.e., as long as the patient is tolerating it well OR until the disease becomes resistant.
Adding pertuzamab does have a benefit, the big study that confirmed this is the CLEOPATRA study.
Wish the best for you and your mom. Take care

Hi Koushik, welcome to the board & I'm sorry about your mom's diagnosis.
We have lots of info and support here. There is an active lung metastasis thread https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topics/...If your mother is ER-/PR-/HER2+ then you might want to look at the first post of this thread as it lists the common treatment options https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topics/...

Curiosity.!!
My mother has gone 3 cycles of chemo and out of them last 2 were with "Herceptin". She tolerated past 3 cycles well, not many Side effects.
We have decided to add Pertuzamab from the next cycle which is due on 05/21. In this scenario can we anticipate any SE's adding due to Pertuzamab now?,That too I am worried that 1st dose is twice the normal ones.. Your experiences pleaseee ..
Thanks much...!!!!

Diarrhea is a common side effect of both Herceptin and Perjeta. My body adjusted after the first few infusions and I no longer have that problem.
If she is tolerating the Herceptin well, chances are the Perjeta will be tolerated well also.
Good luck

Thank you..!, A sigh of relief.
