Concerned - bloody discharge

Hi everyone, in late February I started having bloody nipple discharge. Thinking I had injured myself I figured I'd give it a couple of weeks before sounding the alarm bells.

Here we are, over two monthly later and still having the discharge :(

I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. The mamma showed a unilateral enhancement area in one breast so I had an MRI. Bi-rads 4.

They sent me for ultrasound guided biopsies but the ultrasound was unable to find anything, so I'm waiting less than patiently for MRI- guided biopsies.

I like knows what the possibilities are, but the US medical system is not built that way, so I'm left to try to figure out what the possible diagnoses are, so I can be prepared for whatever comes. I hate the uncertain of not even knowing the alternatives.

Here are the less-than-clear findings (I just have to share them with someone, this anxiety is really disabling), I would appreciate any input (clearly I know I won't really know until after the biopsies)

Left Breast :

There is asymmetric clumped linear and somewhat nodular nonmasslike enhancement in a regional and ductal distribution throughout the majority of the upper outer quadrant. This abnormal enhancement extends at least 15 cm AP dimension with linear enhancement extending from 2.6 cm
anterior to the nipple posteriorly, and into the nipple anteriorly. The asymmetric enhancement also involves a smaller area of the upper inner quadrant approximately 2 cm medial to the midline. This abnormal enhancement appears to correspond to the new asymmetry seen mammographically within the upper outer quadrant and has type I-II and 3 kinetics. This abnormal enhancement is seen on axial images 54 through 101, sagittal reformatted images 37 through 104 with more dominant areas of enhancement posteriorly axial images 75-82, sagittal reformatted images 62 through 76, and anteriorly where there is clumped linear enhancement axial image 66, sagittal reformatted image 64.There are multiple prominent axillary lymph nodes
present with maximum cortical thickening of 1.4 cm axial image 59 and measuring up to 2.7 cm
in length.

Hi Pipergrl! Hopefully this comes back benign for you once you've had the biopsy! The waiting through all of this is sooo difficult. I did not have blood discharge or any other type of discharge. I did have a 3 cm area of non-mass enhancement found on MRI that turned out to be benign and precancerous stuff. Some of what you describe sounds like that and other things you wrote about I do not know anything about - sorry... I certainly want to send support... do what you can to distract while waiting doing things that help you relax and things you enjoy even if this will all still weigh on you too... it's about getting through the best you can for now...

Thank you. The wait is truly maddening!

It has been over a month from the first images and no diagnosis yet... I sometimes feel I'm just going crazy, cannot focus, an not resting well, have zero appetite... I just want to know...

And 15cm seems so daunting, I sure hope it's benign, but either way I just want to know..

Sigh. I keep telling myself to take one day at a time ...

    Piper Girl,

I had a bloody discharge and repeat mammo showed same as last test. A galactogram or ductogram was done. For this test/exam, a radiologist identifies the duct opening that the discharge is draining from. A local anesthetic is administered. They then insert a very, very tiny cannula into the duct until resistance is felt then a dye is expressed into the duct. Mammogram is repeated.

In my case, an Intraductal papilloma was suspected,….again. A lumpectomy was done and path report came back as suspected; Intraductal papilloma #2.

    Hope this is helpful

Lost-In-Trace, what do you mean by "repeat mamo showed the same as last test"... what did the mamo show?
