Breast differences

Hi There,

I have a question that I was wondering anyone would be able to answer. I haven't told anyone about my breast issues except the dr so I can't talk to my family about it yet.

I found a lump in my breast and my dr confirmed another one that I had missed. However what I am concerned about is that my right breast feels rather different then my left. My right is a bit swollen closer to my armpit and upper part of my breast. Also in that same area it feels much more lumpy then the same area on my left breast. I have a mammogram May 5th but I was wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone or if I'm worrying without much reason to. Also I am 36 not sure if that makes a difference.

    Hello Canadagirl4 and welcome to the place none of us wanted to be. There can be many reasons for the swelling and there are lymph nodes in those areas. They can be swollen due to some sort of infection or for other reasons, so try not to be upset about it. I hope your mammogram goes well and they find no cause for alarm. Try to relax (easier said than done) and let us know what your testing shows. My very best wishes to you.

    Welcome canadagirl4! LW is correct these things can occur for various reasons and can end up all right. Glad you have a mammo scheduled. Do what you can to keep yourself distracted and as grounded as possible. Much of what you read/research will not even apply to you even if something comes of all of this so keep that absolutely minimal. Keep in mind most of the time things end up benign. I hope that is true in our case as well! Please let us know when you hear on results. We're here for support until then too!

    Hi there! I'm not an expert and found out just yesterday that my boob lump was an "island of dense tissue" after a 2.5 week wait for scans after a 6 or so weeks "wait and see" approach but I wanted to comment that I, too, have two different feeling boobs. I just turned 35 and my doctor said this is very normal.

    My right boob has a lot more fibrograndular tissue than my left and that tissue extends up into my armpit or what I've learned is the "tail of Spence." When I'm on my cycle, it gets more lumpy and the tissue up into my armpit feels almost inflamed. It goes back to "regular lumpy" after my cycle ends. Mine starts around ovulation, so I've got about 2 good weeks a month before the right boob throws another temper tantrum.

    You're doing the right thing by getting checked out. Get your scans and go from there. Hoping its all good news for you, but wanted to share my story since its fresh and I had a similar experience.

    Thank you for your reply. My mind is going a million miles a minute about the worst case scenario but I did read that 80% of lumps etc are benign.

    waiting for my ultrasound. They skipped the mammogram and decided to go straight to ultrasound. I will update when I know more. Thank you

    Hi, I just wanted to thank you for all your helpful comments. Hlthe dr said he couldn't see anything abnormal on my ultrasound.

    Yes I'm glad it is as well but I am a little confused as to why he didn't do a mammogram to get an image of the whole breast instead of a few pictures of about 50% but he is dr that specializes in this so I'm sure he knows what is going on.
