Hello, I am part of a team running online wellbeing research programs for cancer survivors. The online programs are developed by mental health professionals who acknowledge how difficult it can be to cope once primary treatment comes to an end. They also acknowledge that it isn't always easy to reach out for help! The CanCope team is currently looking for cancer survivors (i.e., anyone who has finished primary treatment, such as chemo, surgery, or radiation) to take part and contribute to meaningful mental health research. The programs take ~8 weeks to complete, are free, and can be completed from any location in your own time. If you are a cancer survivor and would like to be involved, you can read more at www.cancope.weebly.com or you can sign-up directly at https://redcap.link/cancope . If you have any questions or hesitations, please email psych.cancope@monash.edu - the CanCope team are more than happy to chat with you via phone/email and provide additional information.

Take care everyone :)
Isabelle

P.S. because our programs are completely online, you can take part from various regions around the world!

Hi Isabelle! Do any of the programs incorporate therapy techniques that also help combat PTSD (and similar mental illnesses)?

    Thank you!

Hello :) Thanks for the question! One of our programs (CanCope Mind) is focused on improving the way we manage our emotions, including anxiety, which is a core feature of PTSD. Also, this program has been linked with reduced anxiety and depressive symptoms overall.. however, it does not aim to specifically target PTSD. Some of the therapy techniques in CanCope Mind involve mindfulness and flexible thinking strategies, which are often relevant in helping those experiencing a range of different mental health difficulties. As we are still in the research phase, we can't be 100% certain about the impact of the program at this point. I hope this helps? :)

Feel free to ask any other questions!
    Isabelle

It sounds like it is only for people within two years of finishing initial treatment, is that right?

Yes, at this point, the study is taking on individuals who are within 2 years of finishing their primary cancer treatment (i.e., chemo, radiotherapy, surgery). However, if you are taking ongoing hormonal or adjunct medications such as aromatase inhibitors, then you can definitely still take part :)
