Prolia injection and immediate side effects
I've been taking Arimidex in conjunction with ovarian suppression, and my last bone density scan shows my osteopenia has gotten somewhat worse. My hips are the same, but I've lost some more density in my lower back. My bone density didn't start from a good place when I began treatment, as it turned out that I was very deficient in Vitamin D and didn't know it. I now take 5000 IU Vitamin D each day, and my levels are normal. My doctor would like to start me on Prolia next month to try to combat the bone loss.
I'm aware of the long term side effects of Prolia, but I'm wondering what the immediate side effects are following the shot. I've heard that some people feel like they have the flu the following day. Right now I'm scheduled to have my first shot on a Wednesday, and I'm wondering if I'm going to feel up to going into work on Thursday. For those of you who have taken Prolia, how did you feel in the days following your shot?

Hi there. I had my 1st shot in December and I am happy to report that it was uneventful and the easiest thing I've done to date!!! I felt no different, and I hope you do too!

My DH has bone Mets, gets the shots with no ill effects.

I had my first injection last September, and like you I was concerned about how my body would do that day and the next day. My body doesn't always play nicely with medication.
In this case, I needn't have worried--zero issues, not even sore at the injection site that night.

I had my 8th Prolia injection a month ago. I have never had any immediate or delayed side effects from these shots.

I am the odd one here. I had my 4th Prolia injection in January. I have felt flu like symptoms after each injection so far. The symptoms only last a day or two and aren't terrible. After that I have no side effects at all and feel completely normal until time for my next injection.

And . . . I had my second Prolia injection in March and had an allergic reaction on my arm. It's probably from the natural rubber housing used in the injection mechanism, not the Prolia. I'm allergic to latex. But it doesn't matter, my endocrinologist says I'm done with that drug.
I'm testing Tymlos this week, I've done three injections and I'll do two more to ensure I don't react to this drug. Fingers crossed, as I want to be able to run w/o my bones breaking. Not an unreasonable wish!

I just had my 3rd Prolia today. My first two I was also getting Kadcyla, and I got super sick. This one I got this morning, the upper back pain started in the afternoon, but when I just tried working out (Zoom) with my personal trainer I got sick to my stomach, and now have a cold sweat. Also a little short of breath, but I had that last 2 times as well, so am not panicking. I am hoping this gets better by morning but I did warn work that I may be flu-like.
I have always been a lightweight when it comes to meds of all kinds. I do wonder if reclast would have more or fewer side effects though. I still have my port so that wouldn't be an issue.
