edited April 2021 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and to the possibility of having breast cancer. Any advice would be so welcome and appreciated. I went for a mammogram and breast ultrasound today for pain in my left breast and armpit area. I was surprised when the radiologist said that the left side is normal but they found a nodule of concern in the right breast. They scheduled me for a needle biopsy next week. The radiologist did not give any measurements or suggestions as to what it could be, she just said it is an area of concern. I am so nervous because I don't know what to expect.

What questions should I be asking when I see her next week? Is a nodule different from a cyst?

Thank you in advance!

Klynch, so a cyst is more likely to be fluid filled whereas a nodule is more solid. The biopsy will grab some of the tissue and then a pathologist can look at it and see what it is under the microscope. If you can access your charts you can see what BIRADS score the radiologist gave & it would also list measurements. If you're in the US, these results are often in the patient portal. Otherwise just hang in there. Biopsies are pretty fast and they freeze you well for them so it's not painful. Fingers crossed for benign results for you!

Hi, I just checked the portal at my doctor's office and my results are in. Its says that it is a BIRAD 4: Suspicious and it is 7 x 6 x 7 mm oval hypoechoic mass with scant internal vascularity. This is all I know for now. Thank you in advance.

BIRAD 4 means its more likely not cancer than cancer. Waiting is really hard, do some things you like to do to keep your mind of worrying. Treat yourself!
