One Year Post Diagnosis

I had ny check up withthe oncologist today - one year to the day of my diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in three places in both breasts (nodes negative) I'm ER/PR positive and Her-2-nu negative, but I also have a BRCA-2 mutation. I chose to have bilat mast with chemo and have gradually regained my strength and my life. This was a bloodwork only visit, but I did mention some rib pain I've been having right below my lat flap back scar. I assumed it was related to my surgery and my recent increase in physical activity since all the muscles have been rearranged and moved. My oncologist pulled out her Rx pad and immediately wrote a script for a bone scan. She said to schedule it if the pain doesn't resolve on its own within two weeks. I tucked it into my purse and thought nothing of it until I got into work and watched John and Elizabeth Edwards' press conference today. Now I'm wondering if I should even wait the two weeks. I'm telling myself not to panic - I usually don't. I just finished reading Elizabeth's book and I heard her speak at the LIVESTRONG Summit last October so her news hit hit me pretty hard. Please encourage me to exhale!!

    deb definetly dont go into panic mode i took an mri on tues morning becos i had lower back pain and am still waiting for results i dont think its anything but after pain lasted on and off for a month i went- then i come home to elizabeths news hit me hard too and all my bc friends
    but dont worry about pain and go for a scan until the pain lasts for weeks- i know we all tend to panic on any pain but just remember before you had BC you had aches and pains and didnt think much of them- thats what i keep trying to tell myself take a deep breath and a xanax or 2 : )

    Like you I am trying to take deep breaths. My one year post dx is this April when I have my first mammogram and CT scheduled. The CT is to check some lung lesions previously identified as granuloma via a lung biopsy. I had one node positive and ER/PR+, HER2 neg with lumpectomy, chemo then rads. Sometimes I think the mental anguish is worse than going thorugh the physical treatments. Joann

    I find that it is natural for us to worry about this, especially after hearing someone else having it. I am now almost 2 years out of chemo and I worry about every pain that I feel. I stay at the doctor's office. Elizabeth Edwards diagnosis is just like I have been diagnosed all over again. Unfortunately this is natural. Please try to surround yourself with your love ones and feel free to take the necessary precautions. We want to live and not die, not yet anyways.
