Three days ago I got the J and J vaccine and now the news is that they have shut down distribution as it causes blood clots. I'm on active treatment (CMF chemo) and freaking out a bit. Would love to hear from anyone else who got it.

I had Pfizer myself but did just watch the news and they were saying that if you had any side effects at all (pain in your legs/stomach or had trouble breathing to call your doctor as soon as possible and report you had this vaccine and you may need to be checked out to make sure you are ok. They did say the side effects that cause "the pause" were in about 6 people over 100,000 an they were not sure yet it was the vaccine that caused it but they paused to be safe to "investigate further". Best wishes.

6 women out of 7 million people who received the JJ. So just under 1 in a million. The women were btwn the ages of 18-48 so I’m thinking if you are post menopausal it’s super super unlikely to affect you - overall I would not stress about it

It was actually 6 people who've had these rare clots over 7 million doses given out so far in the U.S..

The greater concern I think is that the J&J vaccine uses the same delivery mechanism (adenovirus) as the AstraZeneca vaccine, which also has been associated with these rare/usual clots (brain clot, low platelets). The AstraZeneca vaccine continues to be used around the world but in many countries is restricted (for now, anyway) to people who are older (usually age 50+ or 55+, depending on the country). This is because the majority of clots have occurred in people who are younger. They are still working on figuring out why the clots are occurring and if it is something specific about the individuals affected.

I haven't had the J&J but I'm in Canada and had the AstraZeneca vaccine 4 weeks ago. My only side effect was a very slightly swollen underarm lymph node, which is just now getting back to normal. But other than that, not even a sore arm.

Hi Rollercoaster451, I had the J&J shot last month. I have a clotting disorder and I take Eliquis. I did not get a clot or have unusual symptoms.

    Hi Rollercoaster451!

I am 54, post menopausal and had JNJ March 5. I also had Covid last March. My 29 year old niece had the JNJ March 6. My husband and 2 friends, all early 60's and also had Covid last March, all had JNJ March 12. I had fever, headache, joint and bone pain for 24 hours. Mainly resolved by 48 hours. A bit of lingering fatigue and joint pain at night for a few days. My lymph nodes on side I had vaccine are still a bit swollen. My niece had headache, mainly for 24 hours and done by 48 hours. My husband and 2 friends had a little fatigue. The odds of having a bad outcome are way worse with Covid than with JNJ vaccine. It sounds like if after a few days you have severe headache, go to ER and tell them you had JNJ vaccine. The treatment for the rare instances of clot potentially associated with the JNJ vaccine, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, is treated differently than usual clots treated with Heparin. The odds of this happening, if it is linked, is less than 1 in 1,000,000 for clot and 1 in 7,000,000 of death. They do not know for sure the vaccine was the cause. The risk of Tylenol, chemo, birth control pills are higher. And certainly from contracting Covid. Your odds of passing from Covid are now greatly reduced. I get your concern. Hopefully next week you will feel so much less nervous and in two weeks hopefully so much better about life as a vaccinated person! I am happy knowing my risk of dying from Covid if I get it, or get exposed to it again, is virtually zero. Side effects from vaccines are pretty normal for 24 - 48 hours after a vaccine. Your immune system is doing its job! I hope you feel good and congratulations on being vaccinated!!

Thanks for the responses! I saw my MO this morning. I go in every week for chemo. She said it's VERY rare but very serious. It's more likely that I will win the lottery vs. have this happen to me. She said it happened to the women between day 6 and day 13. I'm five days out from my shot so if something happens it will be in the next week or so. The women were between 18 and 48. I'm 49. I asked what to do if I have a headache or the symptoms on the news. She said it wouldn't be a minor headache. The symptoms would be so bad that I would go directly to the ER. This is also tied to low platelets. Thankfully since I go in each week I get my platelets checked. They were fine today.

I'm still glad I got vaccinated but I wish I would have chosen another Moderna or Pfizer!

    Stay safe everyone.

I am not downplaying the seriousness of those who suffered a side effect from the J&J vaccine but want to offer some perspective. First and foremost, due to supply issues most of us did not have a choice of which vaccine to get so wishing for a different vaccine may have resulted in no vaccine if your vax of choice was not on offer. Secondly, it is a terrible se, but still a very , very low incident se and I hope it stays that way. Yes, there is a tiny risk for some people, not yet clearly understood, but most of us never hesitate to get into cars everyday where the risks of injury and death are higher than they are for the J&J vaccine.
