Yoga For Metastatic Breast Cancer
I was a certified Iyengar yoga teacher for 18 years and have been using yoga to help myself deal with the effects of cancer and the side effects of the medications. I've wanted to share things that have been helpful to me with you all so I made my first yoga video. If you are interested in trying yoga, please check out the video and follow along. Warning-I use a lot of props so that the poses will be accessible to those of us with stiffer bodies and balance issues so be prepared to gather several things that I ask for in the beginning of the video. I hope you will enjoy this and give me feedback for future videos. This is my first time teaching to people who are not directly in front of me so your feedback will be very helpful. Thank you.https://youtu.be/BPOANpfxN_s

Thank you for posting this. I will try it tomorrow and let you know. I have an app on my phone that I tried and even at the beginner setting it was too fast for my stiff legs and back to keep up with. I hear so many positive things about yoga that I am really excited to find something that works.
-
Emac-please let me know if the pacing on this video works for you. I'm already planning a second one. I take a zoom yoga class myself with a teacher I've had for 25 years. I too struggle to keep up with his pace because of the stiffness I have from MBC.

Thank you, chicagoan! I was never an exercise type of person but once I tried yoga I was hooked. My school is on partial in person instruction but we all Zoom one day a week. I do a live, via Zoom, yoga class for all first graders. Imagine an almost 65 year old woman with mbc doing yoga on top of a student desk! I was inspired to teach yoga to our students by the book Babar’s Yoga for Elephants 🐘.
-
xbrnxgirl-That is so wonderful that you teach your students yoga! I love that Babar book-a great resource for teaching kids.
-
The pace was good, thank you! I had some trouble crawling about on the floor but once I figured out my space and props it worked well for me.
-
Emac-I'm glad it worked well for you.

Hi Chicagoan, that is great idea that you used your experience as an experienced yoga instructor for MBC, I like movements modification in the way we all can get benefit. I used to practice yoga since 2012, but MBC took many things from me including flexible body. Before pandemic I attended few yoga sessions for BC, because I wasn’t in good shape I couldn’t get benefit and continued with physical therapy instead. Thanks for sharing your work, would you mind if I share your class with some of MBC ladies outside of Bco?
-
Snow-drop, please do share it. I want it to be available for anyone who might find it useful. MBC certainly does a number on our flexibility and strength too but yoga can help us regain some of what we lost.
-
Now, imagine my almost 65 year old self perched on the table as 75 first graders do yoga with me via Zoom!
-
Wonderful! Wish we could see you in action!

o
I posted a new yoga class in case anyone is interested. Hope you find it helpful!
