Waiting is truly horrible. Biopsy today!

I’m struggling, i went in for my biopsy today after a Birads 4B mammogram and ultrasound on the 3/22, they wanted to get me in sooner than today but this was the first available. I truly thought the mammogram and ultrasound would show nothing of concern and was taken aback when the biopsy was needed. Now I’m just at a loss. 3-5 days to hear back. Also with my chart I was warned that I could see the test results before my Doctors had time to review them and call me. I want to say I’m strong enough to not look and wait for the proper call and explanation... I’m just not that strong and I really hope I don’t find out anything horrible after hours without anyone to really explain it to me.

I’m trying to stay positive, I went in as soon as I could get in after I found it. No one has mentioned anything about my lymph nodes and if it’s cancer that it’s early and breast cancer research has come a long way since I watched my paternal grandmother die from BC. I’m 37, I know this is likely not a death sentence but I’m just really down. My poor husband just doesn’t know what to say or do and today I just unraveled when we got home. The quickest appointment which my doctor and the radiologist wanted done quickly was today nearly 2 hours away from our home. I’m just sitting here really wondering how I’m going to get through the weekend without a nervous breakdown.

I want to just keep telling myself it’s benign most are and yet that thinking pattern really didn’t help me much when I was told it needed to be biopsied. How do I prepare myself for a diagnosis with such polar opposite directions? It’s either nothing or very much something and my mind just won’t stop weighing and analyzing which is more likely... it’s a exhausting exercise of pure insanity... yet I can’t stop myself.

My favorite way to calm myself is to take a bath and I was told absolutely no baths for 3 days. I of course started my period yesterday (a week early) and the combo of it all has me feeling weirdly angry and just scared.

How do you get through this in between?

Thank you, for your sweet response. It is comforting knowing I’m not alone even though only my husband knows, (Don’t want to worry anyone if it’s nothing) I’m really happy I found this forum.

Welcome CapeCodAsh! You indeed are in good company here... I think I can accurately say we have been where you are even if we each had and have our own situations. The waiting is just terrible - I wouldn't try to tell you different. If you've read much at all in the sections for newbies (or other sections too, really) you will hear that common theme - it's just hard! Do what you can to distract yourself while this will be on your mind too. Check out some of the lighter forums on this site - cats, dogs, humor, exercise.... check out YouTube cat and dog videos.... hopefully your weather is getting nicer (tho worse where I am the next two days...) so maybe a walk - a brisk walk.... humor on t.v., etc. Try to stick with neutral or lighter things.... dramas might be captivating though??? Try to get enough sleep and taking care of yourself in other ways though sometimes it's easier just to do what you need to....

I'm one who likes to look at my results before I speak with the doctor, so I can make a list of sensible questions to ask. That way, I'm not puzzling afterwards about what the doctor said and I can get a good grasp of what the next step might be. And then I don't worry about that step because it won't do any good, and I schedule fun things to do in the meantime.

Wonderful ideas. Really trying to refocus myself. YouTube is perfect as well, I can find some projects to occupy myself. Just have to occupy the space and deal with it as it comes.

Thank you, so much for reading and responding it means a lot to me

this is a great take on the test results. Trying to figure out some key words that would note things one way or the other. I can plan and have my questions ready.

    Thank you for this

    Hello,

I am in the same position as you, I feel everything you are going through. I had my first screening mammogram last Nov at age 40 came back with suspicious calcifications had 2 biopsies done both benign. Extremely difficult time for me thinking the worst I have 3 young kids. Spoke to my OB at that time if I should get additional screening such as a ultrasound since the mammo showed I have very dense breasts. My OB didnt seem concerned. 2 weeks ago I started having breast pain, got an ultrasound done mass found - Birads 4. I was dreading having to have another biopsy. Now scheduled for another biopsy. All those feelings from November are back I am trying to get my biopsy scheduled earlier as there was a two week wait.

Sending everyone on here positive and loving vibes. For everyone who is waiting for results its so very hard, I hope you all get benign results.

I’m really sorry you are going through this too. More so since it’s the second time around. I’m not sure about you but I kind of just want mine out I don’t care what it is. I had to wait 10 days for my biopsy and it felt like forever. I hope your biopsy goes well and this is just a scare. If not at least we are younger and hopefully if it’s something it was found early. That seems to be the only way I can pacify myself is that whatever it is I’ll get through it. Time just moves so slow when you are waiting.

Sending lots of love your way

Hang in there CapeCodAsh and Hopbee97! I was just there myself waiting & going crazy. Good news is that you guys are younger and my doc. said younger and healthier people do well with the treatments and bounce back faster. Skimming through here has helped me prepare for my appointments and be able to understand exactly what is being talked about. Don't read too much but just enough to get educated. Stay positive!

oh yea waiting is the worst! Honestly I have no chill and if I get a my chart notification I am compelled to open it. I will say that even benign results can sound scary due to the unfamiliar medical terms.

    If it helps:

Try journaling. Get fresh air. Know that most biopsy don’t find cancer. Know that it already is what it is so no sense wasting a good weekend worrying when the die is already cast ( so much easier said then done

Hopbee97 and CapeCodAsh sending prayers your way for benign results. Yes the waiting is so very difficult. I hope you both can find some distractions. Very glad that you both are proactive about your health - that can be one of the biggest hurdles people face. If something comes up, well, we will just deal with it.

Well the results just came through the my chart app and the first cyst which was one of those while you are there check it out thing is benign which was to be expected it was fully aspirated at the biopsy, the bigger scarier one has a RESULTS PENDING WILL BE IN ADDENDUM it says this in all 3 results on my chart.

Both sites are listed together in all 3 reports. I’m trying not to freak out but why release anything if there is just going to be an addendum?

Good news on the cyst CapeCodAsh though you said it was expected. As far as the results pending... Maybe those had to be sent out and are not back yet which is not unusual? I do think it's odd they posted about the cyst and waiting on the others vs. waiting until they can post a complete report..... I would try not to read too much into that though honestly I'd probably struggle with that myself. Do what you can to relax and do enjoyable things this weekend regardless - you will still worry.... Just hoping you won't feel great misery while waiting - that you can temper that some....

Hopbee.... I want to welcome you as well and hope all ends up well for you.... You continue waiting as well... it's soooo hard.....
