Sick of this .
Hi Everyone-
Considered high risk as my Aunt had BC at 38, My sister at 40, and my Mother passed away from BC in November of 2019. I am on Mammo/MRI Schedule, but haven't done tamoxifen yet due to what I've heard about side effects. Well Woman visit this week doctor found a lump in my left breast, so tommorow is another diagnostic mammo/Ultrasound. Issues a while back with developing asymmetry in same breast as the lump, right around same spot. I'm wondering if at this point, I should push for a biopsy? Curious to know your thoughts.
Thanks,

rebekahtmiller09, Are you being followed by a BS? That might be the place to start after your diagnostic testing. I think I would ask for a MRI, if they don't find anything. If there is something you won't have to ask for a biopsy they will want you to get it done. Have you been tested for the BRCA gene?

I have a VUS on my genetic testing. I have a breast specialist, but I'm also followed closely by my GP as well.

I'd recommend that you wait to see the findings from the diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. It might find something like a simple cyst, which is benign and easy to identify on an ultrasound. A small cyst that was developing a while back would also explain the asymmetry.
I'm not saying that this is what's going on but just providing one example where you might get a clear answer without need for a biopsy. Don't decide on the following step until you know what happens with this next step. Maybe a biopsy will be necessary, or maybe an MRI will be advisable, or maybe it'll be a simple cyst and nothing more will be required.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. -
Is there anyone else in your family that has had testing done to compare results? Breast surgeon would be the one to see if you want further testing and or surgery. Sometimes the GP hands are tied. Good luck to you.

I'm so sorry you are going through this scary and stressful time. I'm a BRCA2 carrier and my mom passed away from BC 2 years ago. I went in for my first routine mammogram and ultrasound as part of the extra screening and they found a tumour (I'm only 38). They were able to tell me right then and there that it was not good and they wanted to schedule a biopsy asap. I really hope this isn't the case for you but based on my experience you won't have to push for anything. If it looks at all suspicious they will do a biopsy.

Welcome rebekah! The others brought up good points. I too would wait and see what the upcoming tests show. Depending they may offer a MRI or right to biopsy esp. with your family history- if tho don't and there are concerns you could push a bit and see if they're willing - thinking more MRI in that case. The others are right that the medical personnel at this stage of the game will likely be right on that if they have any concerns... Wishing you well! Please keep us in the loop.....
