Keeping pets off during recovery

I am looking for ideas on how to keep my cats and dogs from walking/jumping on my chest, or obtaining extra padding for protection, after reconstruction surgery. I am currently looking at tactical vests worn for paintball and things. Suggesstions? Thanks!!
