Hello lovely ladies! I am actually asking on behalf of a friend. She had a sentinel node biopsy, and now has shooting pain down her arm (think sciatica), and a hematoma where a drain did not work. Any advice suggestions? I am thankfully many years out from my DIEP and doing well. Gentle cyber hugs to all!

No suggestions on the hematoma, but you can tell your friend that the shooting pain is very common. It's the nerves regenerating. I remember the first time I had one of those, I just about flew out of my chair. Generally these pains are quick in duration when they happen, and they don't tend to happen for very long, although the arm and underarm might remain numb for months or even permanently.

When did your friend have her surgery?

She just had the surgery three weeks ago.

Yeah, that's about the timing when I started to have the shooting pains.

After surgery they usually recommend cold, but a hematoma needs warmth to dissolve. I would check with her BS. The hematoma could be pressing on a nerve and might have to be drained.
