I am reluctant to write this, but I need support. After nearly a full year of being sick with some unidentified illness that doctors called "post viral fatigue," I have found several large lumps in my breasts and armpits. I went to the doctor to have myself validated in case I was crazy, and she said I did in fact have several large soft lumps in various regions of my chest. When I told her I actually have random lactation etc, she ordered a test for the hormone prolactin. That came back normal despite large amounts of nipple discharge. A second doctor referred me for an ultrasound and told me not to worry. The imaging clinic has failed to call me, and I am concerned I was not put through as a priority case.

There are MANY things that both me about my breasts including stinging and aching pain deep inside the breasts and armpits, hard flakey nipples, leathery spots, soft lumps, extremely large "hair follicles" that look like pits, extreme sweating and night sweats, randomly elevated WBC and constant nausea.

How long can I expect to wait to get an appointment and can anyone assure me it won't be too late by the time someone actually tests the lumps/dents in my breasts? How do I advocate for myself without being an alarmist and making my treatment slower??????

Hi Elindhorst, what province are you in and are you in/near a large metropolitan center? That does change things a lot.

I can assure you that most breast malignancies are quite slow growing so weeks will not make a difference at this point.

I have had signs and symptoms for a year, some longer. 52 weeks. I am near a metropolitan area in BC.

If you're in the Lower Mainland, I'd suggest you ask for a referral to the Breast Health clinic at Jim Pattison Outpatient Center in Surrey.

Otherwise, if it's been more than a week and nobody has gotten back to you with even a date for the ultrasound, I'd suggest calling the doctor's office to ask if it's been submitted. Things do get lost.
