I'm scared

I had a mammogram done and the results came back birads 4c. I got a biopsy done today. Waiting for the results.

Everything is happening so fast. Last month I noticed a lump and pain. The pain went away but I have nipple discharge.

I'm 32, I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. I want to stay strong for them but it's so hard.

I'm scared..

    Hi Kalunde,

Your anxiety is absolutely normal and yes, things do start happening quickly once you receive your Birads 4. Right now, there is nothing you can do until the pathology of your biopsy is finished. However, there have been so many advances in cancer treatment, it is not as dire as where your mind will lead you. For now, enjoy your babies. Do you have a significant other? If so, can he/she give you some regular space so you have time to process, read here and perhaps be not so strong?

Keep us posted as you learn things. Do you have a nurse navigator? I have found them to be particularly helpful. Don't hesitate to come back with any concerns.

Yes, I have a significant other. But I think he's even more scared than I am. So I'm trying to be brave for him too.

I don't have a nurse navigator. I don't even know what that is. I guess I need to read more. And see if I can get one.

I haven't been able to sleep or eat. I just need the results, so as to plan my next step.

I'm really glad for this platform. It helps to express how I feel and knowing that there are others out there.

Did you have your imaging done at a breast center? Some of those are pretty much one-stop shopping, doing mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and with the surgeon's office right there. My surgeon had a nurse navigator, who is the person who coordinates your care, but I never met her because she was on vacation. And everyone else was so helpful, and made all my appointments for me, that I didn't miss her.

    Best of luck to you.

Kalunde I am sorry you are going through this. The waiting is awful I agree. I sincerely hope that your result is benign. If it is not, we will walk this path with you when you need support. As to the nurse navigator - I wasn't assigned to anyone until I received my initial diagnosis, then the wheels began to turn. I hope you get your test results soon.

The waiting is so hard, isn’t it? I’m in a similar situation. My Birads are also 4C. Tomorrow will be two weeks since getting that report, and my biopsy is also happening tomorrow, finally. Just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone. I hope you get your results soon. Fingers crossed for benign findings

Hi Kalunde! Just want to welcome you and send support! Try not to get too far ahead of yourself as difficult as that is. Hopefully it comes back benign though could be DCIS (pre-cancer/not invasive) if it is not benign... Hopefully you get results back soon. The waiting is soooo difficult!

The beginning parts are so hard and scary. Know that this site and the discussion boards are wonderful sources of information and fellowship. Read as much as you can but maybe in small doses for now. Try not to fall down a scary rabbit hole of 'what if'. Take it a step at a time. Do try to be your own advocate with your drs, and don't be afraid to switch if one is not communicative and kind to you.

We are all here for you.

Hi Kalunde & fiveoclock. I too am in the same situation. Two weeks ago, I got my results from my diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound that I require a biopsy. BIRADS 4. My biopsy is tomorrow morning. I have a follow up appointment next Monday to receive the results of tomorrow's biopsy. We will get through this together. Big hugs to you both!

Thank you all for being so supportive. The results came back but they said they were inconclusive and asked me to get another core biopsy done.

I am willing to get it done. But my husband isn't. He thinks we should travel abroad and get better treatment. He's worried that the biopsy can cause cancer to spread. If it is cancer, that is.

So I'm guessing maybe some of you may know if it's true or not. Am I putting myself at risk by getting another core biopsy done???

Kalunde, Thank you very much! I had my biopsy this past Tuesday. I see my dr for the results on Monday. Have you decided if you’re going to travel for better care or have another biopsy? Please keep us posted.

During my biopsy today, I asked about that. It's called "seeding" and the hospital staff told me that there has been zero evidence to support that theory. I've also been reading "the new generation breast cancer book", which is written by a chief of breast surgery. She mentioned that this theory is just a myth.

Mcmommy, I'm glad it went well. Yes we decided to travel to India. My whole family is worried and convinced I'm should go, so that's were I'm going.

I don't know if it's fortunately or not, but I just found out I'm pregnant. And I don't know how I feel about that considering....
