Red Skin Lesion on chest
Hi everyone,
I’ve had this red mark on my chest for about 4 months now. It kind of looks like a mini hickey. It’s about 1.5cm x 1cm. It’s never been itchy, dry or sore so I honestly didn’t think anything of it for ages until my mum told me to get eczema cream for it from the pharmacist. When I told the pharmacist how long it had been there for he freaked out and told me to go to the doctor if the cream didn’t help.
So I did and the doctor said it’s definitely a lesion, not a rash. My breast was a little bit tender (not where the lesion is, more towards my nipple) so she examined my breast and felt a lump.
So she sent me off for an ultrasound. The results came back that everything looked normal and the doctor pretty much told me to just keep an eye on the lesion and come back if it gets any bigger or starts to hurt. She also said this about a lymph node that is slightly risen behind my ear.
She did a blood test about a month before all this and it came back normal.
Has anyone had anything similar happen? Should I just wait it out and see what happens or should I get a second opinion?
I read that IBC can be missed on an ultrasound and I’m freaking out because I don’t know what this lesion is or what’s causing it.

How old are you? I'm assuming you are young since you weren't sent for a mammogram.
IBC is very rare and has about 6 or 7 common symptoms. It usually progresses quickly. If you have just this one lesion and and it hasn't changed for several months, it's extremely unlikely to be IBC.
My recommendation would be to see a dermatologist. Most issues on the skin, even the skin of the breast, are skin problems, not breast problems. If the dermatologist is concerned, she can do a punch biopsy, which is used to diagnose skin disorders but also happens to be the best way to diagnose IBC. So seeing a dermatologist might get this resolved and rule out IBC.
Let us know how it goes!

Hi Beesie,
Thanks for your reply! I’m 30 in October.
I’ve actually noticed that my chest has been quite tight that side over the last day or two and it looks like there is a larger mark popping up a few cms above the first one but it’s not as red. I’ll see how it is tomorrow and go from there. I think I’ll definitely see a dermatologist if it gets worse!
Thanks for your advice
