Focal Asymmetry in Both Breasts - 3D Mamo with Tomo
Hello. I am new here and hoping to learn from others experiences.
I had a BILATERAL DIGITAL SCREENING MAMMOGRAM TOMOSYNTHESIS WITH CAD yesterday. (My previous mamos - last one 2018 - always show something that requires more accurate imaging like 3D and ultra sound)....so my OB/GYN, just ordered the better imaging for my annual screening. However, I haven't had one since 2018.
Results came back to show focal asymmetry in both right (lower inner aspect ) and left breasts (left breast upper inner aspect). I have scattered fibroglandular elements in both breasts - so dense but not overly dense.
I thought the 3D with tomo would be able to rule out better overlapping tissue? So I am concerned there might be more than just something as simple as that. Anyone have similar experience with this test and focal asymmetry? Does having focal asymmetry appear in both breast cause more reason for concern or might it be a good sign?
thank you in advance for any advice, insight, experience. I haven't heard from my doctor yet. Just had the test yesterday afternoon (a Friday) and report was released to their system is how I saw the results. Calls for additional spot images and US. Expecting to hear from doctor next week.

Welcome tagreen! The medical aspects are not my strength so I will leave that to others. Hopefully someone will respond to some of your questions before too long. I just want to welcome you and send support. Hopefully you hear from your doc Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Pros and cons to reports being available before calls - I tend to prefer it..... Hang in there and try to keep yourself occupied this weekend!

What was the resolution on your 2018 post below? Sounds about the same and you never said

Any insight here is appreciated! I am 44 years old. Had one mammogram when I was 36 after dr. thought she felt something, but after mammogram all was great - breast mostly fatty. Having some other female issues and dr. was on me to get mammogram done due to age and time since first only one. So I did today. Before I ever left the parking lot, I had a call from my doctor saying I needed a diagnostic mammogram done. Here's some excerpts from the screening mammogram:
The focal asymmetry in the left breast lower inner aspect middle depth is indeterminate.
There are scattered fibroglandular elements in both breasts. (wasn't like that 8 years ago; was fatty).
There are multiple asymmetries in the right breast upper outer aspect middle depth.
Anyone else have similar findings? Any insights on how concerning this might or might not be?
Thanks in advance for any responses.”

Ditto the question from MelissaDallas. What was the resolution in 2018?
Overlapping tissue is overlapping tissue - having a 3D mammo doesn't change that. Lots of people come through here who have focal asymmetry showing up on a 3D mammo and it turns out to be nothing more than overlapping tissue. Not saying that's the case here, of course, but it could be.
Scattered fibroglandular is not considered dense - it's more than 50% fatty. Most women fall in category C so you are fortunate to have breasts that are less dense than average.

Thanks so much for the great replies and information. In 2018, after the screening mamo, I went through diagnostic mamo and US and it was determined to be benign clustered cysts (right) and complicated cyst (left). No mention at the six month follow-up (left breast) of complicated cyst or focal asymmetry. October 2018 was my last mamo on left breast; January 2018 on right. Then just had Digital Mamo with Cad and Tomo screening mamo on March 12, 2021. I am 47 yrs old, pre-menopausal.
