GM. My oncologist has suggested a mastectomy. We were both clear no surgery. Not recommended, but my local tumor and markers grew double its size in 3 months. On my third treatment plan. Can anyone give some insight? Thank you!!!

    Hello Staceydrake, welcome to the boards & sorry you find yourself dealing with this diagnosis. Sounds like you've have a stressful time.

    Continuing from the other thread;

    Tell us more.

    Are you de novo?

    What are your hormone markers? Where are your mets?

    What treatments have you tried and what is your health otherwise? There is some indication that a surgical approach might be appropriate for select de novo pts so .... but so many things to consider.

    Hi my dear

    you can always ask for a second opinion

    Sounds like your onc has given you one sensible option as rate or tumour burden is enlarging

    Second opinion could add strength to the therapy option you have now been given

    Recent research does mention that there are now alternative reasons for recommending surgery for some denovo patients

    All the best

    Bright in hope

    GM and the short answer to your question is yes I did have a mastectomy last November after a 2nd opinion. Lots of factors made it a necessary and acceptable treatment for me.

    Thank you for your response. I’ve been researching like crazy. Though I’m very happy with my Oncologist and team, I am still reminded that’s it’s important to understand with questions and research.
