edited March 2021 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

Hello,

I think I am in shock and am expecting the worst,37F. First symptoms appeared with blood from nipple. I then scheduled an appt with a nurse provider and she found a lump. Referred me for a diagnostic breast mammogram. Diagnostic breast exam and ultrasound were performed. Diagnostic team scheduled me for a biopsy. Thank goodness I am lucky enough to be able to get my tests done and confirmed soon. Anyhow, I am feeling in kind of a fog lately, not sleeping too well, and of course I am worried about how this is affecting my husband. I've been browsing the forums and looking at other people's battles and realize how much strength is in this community.

    Hi Bluebird,

Gosh, we have all been right where you are. This process tests how patient we are in a time of uncertainty. I recall feeling as though time was passing so slowly yet I felt pulled into a rapid swirling vortex. Everyone will tell you to try to calm, slow down your browsing & thinking and let it play out. That is so difficult to do. I will tell you what NOT to do & that is to worry about your husband right now. Remember the sickness & health bit in the vows? Well, this is where he embraces you with love & attention & you graciously accept what he is offering. This community is very strong and we will be here for whatever we can give. For now, be kind to yourself. If you have a question, don't hesitate to ask.

    Take care,

    Jane

Welcome Bluebird, Such a beautiful name you chose. I love it. jhl had some very beautiful things to say and I agree. I hope you have support from your husband but this is about you right now. I think we can all agree that the not knowing and the waiting for results is probably the most difficult piece of this experience. It sucks! Take a deep breath right now. I'm waiting...

Okay, now all you have to do is not think about it. Yes... not possible is it!? In my experience, it has helped me to give myself permission to think about what might happen, research it on the internet, talk to my people about it (you don't have to tell everyone right now, just your inner circle of those you love and trust most), and really just think about it for a while. Set a time limit on it if that works for you. If not, just do what you need to do. Then tell yourself to move on. Do something else. Something that you enjoy and that makes you feel good. When the thoughts come up, acknowledge them and convince yourself that you will do more research tomorrow (with a time limit). This has helped me and I hope it helps you. Either way, please keep coming to this forum for support.

Please keep us updated. I don't think you said when the biopsy is but let us know. You are so right, there is much strength in this community. Blessings to you, and I will be thinking of you Bluebird. Hugs!

    Hi Blluebird,

We know that it is not easy for you not to worry too much or look for as much info as this point while waiting for biopsy or tests; but please try to keep your mind distracted as much as you can with work and other things. Let your husband be a rock for you, and your support.

If constant worry affects your sleep to certain point (you know yourself best), please don’t hesitate to ask your doctor for some anxiety or sleeping pills. I sincerely hope that you don’t have to go through what most of us here went through, but please know that, whatever comes, you are stronger than you think and can deal with it “one step at a time”. Hugs

Thank you everyone with your kind words! Today I get the biopsy done, and I am very anxious. My breasts are tender to begin with because of my pms. I am also anxious because the area of concern on my left breast has started to hurt with all of the exams. I am so overwhelmed wondering if its inflammatory breast cancer. The truth is I won't know till everything is finished. It's so hard with my mind racing/trying to make sense of what's going on. I keep trying to remember what the size of the lump was on the mammogram screen during the procedure. I hope, pray I don't have cancer, but the lump and the blood coming from nipple when breast is compressed is frightening. :(

The most common reason for bleeding is a benign papilloma. A small percentage of the time, like less than 20%, there can be a small amount of DCIS or other cancer around the area. As to inflammatory breast cancer, you have voiced no symptoms whatsoever that sound like inflammatory breast cancer.

Hey everyone! Thank you for your support. Had a biopsy this afternoon and received some promising news! Yesterday after all the diagnostics tests, I had some kind of smear test to look for abnormality in nipple discharge. Was pleased that nurse told me my discharge didn't contain any cancer or red blood cells. I think this may be a good sign that my lump could be benign.

Well great news! My biopsy came out negative for cancer! I am hoping to somewhat interpret what my imaging studies say. I am scheduled for a follow up mammogram in six months to check for any changes in lump and keep going from there. Thank you all for the support!
