Can normal dryness look white or should I be worried?

Today I went to the specialty gynecologist at the cancer center to ask for a solution for the vaginal dryness that's resulted from tamoxifen and a full hysterectomy. I came away with an Estrace prescription and the unpleasant discovery of a small white rough patch on the vulvar skin. She said it should be watched, re-checked at my 3-month followup, and then possibly biopsied if it looked worse. Sounds like the Estrace could send it packing, or it could be from a small tear that's healing, but I can't actually clearly remember what she said, because the only word I heard was "biopsy." Seriously??? After breast cancer and a full hysterectomy for a precancerous endometrium whose only consolation was that I had eradicated the possibility of any gyno cancers there actually is ANOTHER (self-censored) cancer and ANOTHER (self-censored) biopsy I now have to spend the next 3 months worrying about?

Just wondered if anyone had ever experienced anything like this and it turned out OK.

Thank you, Kathy. I'm coming down from the edge of the cliff after going into MyChart and reading the notes from the appointment. The way it's noted makes it sound completely non-scary: 2mm hypopigmented dry spot that does not itch and is not painful. If she just hadn't used the word "biopsy" I wouldn't have freaked out. I really hope the estrogen cream will make it go away.
