March 2021 Surgeries Anyone?
Greetings to all! (I haven’t seen a March 2021 surgery group but if there’s one let me know and I’ll delete my post).
My mom had her UBX on 3/1. She has ILC, Grade 1 tumor size unknown because of how hard ILC is to image. All the surgeon said after the surgery was that when she did sentinel node biopsy she saw suspicious nodes so she ended up doing a lymph node dissection.
Fingers crossed for little node involvement and a small tumor! She has a post op appointment where she gets final pathology on 3/9. 3/9 just happens to be my birthday and the only thing I want for that day is a good outcome to all this. Good luck to anyone and everyone who’s having surgery or procedures this month I’m wishing everyone luck

I have not seen a March thread before this. They don't always get started each month and sometimes people just tag onto month prior
.
Wishing your mom a good outcome with the pathology on her nodes, and a corresponding happy birthday for you. ILC is indeed tricky. My mum's was missed for who knows how long before she felt the lump herself, and she was so diligent about screening due to our family history. Anyway, hoping for best for your mom and that all nodes all come back negative!
I am a prophylactic patient and had my second round of fat grafting on March 4 and hoping that is last thing except a final tattoo touch up for a long, long time. I have had 6 surgeries since 2014 (5 of them BMX/Reconstruction related) and I feel done no matter the results at this point. My husband also stresses each time I go in so I know he is hopeful it is all done too!
My surgery however went well, woke up really smoothly in recovery room (we only sorted out best anesthesia protocol for me about two surgeries ago - I otherwise have a hard time coming out of anesthesia). Did have to stick around day surgery unit longer than expected after I came out of recovery room even though I felt great - was very alert, no more pain meds once left recovery (where they gave my some hydromorphone in my IV), got up to pee almost right away - as my tummy incisions kept leaking lots of blood when I walked the unit (have stitches and steri-strips but they kept sprouting leaks through all the bandaging and they finally did some kind of pressure bandages on me which worked). They could not let me go until I walked without leaking. I felt impatient as I had a 2 1/2 hour trip back home and it was already getting late.My PS took the fat from my tummy/mid section again which I am happy about as really hoped to avoid thigh area. Feeling really good since that first day. Was able to do some work from home yesterday including a phone meeting but otherwise took it really easy and snuggled with the cat a lot and watched lots of Netflix. Did a 45 minute easy going walk around my basement this morning as I could not sleep. Plan to do some more work from home today. Bruising is so far much less than last time and I feel less stiff across belly. Wearing some compression shorts that come up high which help feel supported in tummy. Will go back to office on Monday and see how week goes. I have a few appointments but otherwise left it flexible to work from home if needed.

Good morning. I’m new here today. IDC diagnosis will require an early April mastectomy so I’ll post now. Consult for decisions about reconstruction options, or not, will be later this March. Prayers for wisdom please! So many life altering decisions so quickly. Wow!
-
I'm scheduled for a single MX with ALND (since I already know I have positive nodes) on April 1. April fool! Joke's on me.
I had originally hoped to be part of the February group, but I underestimated the necessary lead time plus my consultation with the plastic surgeon was delayed 2 weeks due to the ice storm. (I'm still waiting for a plumber to come fix our busted hot water pipe.)
I've decided to go flat since the PS doesn't recommend implants after radiation, and I don't want any kind of flap.I need to check with my MO at my appointment on Friday, but I'm going to try to get a COVID vaccine a couple weeks before surgery. I have successfully gotten onto the city's signup list where they post openings a week ahead of time.
Good luck to everyone!

Good evening,
I'm having my surgery this coming Monday March 8th. I'll be having a mastectomy on my L breast, and will be going flat since I'm 65 and don't want reconstruction. I had my 1st vaccine last week , so I'm happy that i have some protection. I'm nervous but feel positive that'll it'll be ok.

Good evening,
I am scheduled for a single mastectomy with reconstruction on my right breast on April 5th but it was changed today to March 29th. Still have questions for my doctor as I am concerned about the left even thought the MRI did not show anything there. Think I need to call and talk to her this week. Feeling nervous as it gets closer
-
I am scheduled for a breast reduction at the end of March inorder to prepare for a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy as I am BRCA2 positive . I have not yet decided what type of reconstruction to have but thought I should take this first important surgical step should my increased surveillance detect cancer. I would not be able to have reconstruction if I did not have the reduction first .I am finding it very valuable to read other peoples posts regarding how their mastectomy and reconstruction surgery has gone and what decisions were made re: what type of reconstruction .

My mom meets with the surgeon tomorrow. She found a lump in December. Had Mammogram and Biopsy in February and found out on March 7th that it is cancer and we meet with the surgeon tomorrow. Is this normal to meet with a surgeon before the oncologist? Her family doctor said she is scheduled for surgery next week. Just wondering if anyone else has had this type of schedule and what questions should I should ask tomorrow. Thank you
-
Capergirl39 - I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s diagnosis and I know how it is trust me it all comes at you so fast out of nowhere and you were nowhere close to expecting it. Yes I think it’s normal to meet with the surgeon before the oncologist. That type of schedule was basically the one my mom had also. She had surgery first and after we receive her post-op pathology report is when we will have the first official oncologist consultation. You should ask as many questions as you need to in order to help you be comfortable like for example how big they think the tumor is, or what surgery they recommend and why.
I hope that bit on insight helped. Best of luck to you and your mom(: -
My surgery is tomorrow. Large lumpectomy followed by oncoplasty and reduction in opposite side and lymph node biopsy. Super nervous. Then the waiting to get the tumor info back...oncotype, etc. Good luck to everyone!!!
-
I'm having a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy this Thursday and then mostly waiting on the pathology reports to determine next steps. Also waiting for the BRCA genetic test results as well since my grandmother had a double mastectomy in her 40s. Trying to focus on the positive and hoping that lymph nodes are all clear and C is only contained to the small lump, and then will move on to radiation treatments. Very nervous as well...

I had my surgery on Monday mastectomy on my L breast, my BC surgeon saw a small amount of cancer in my lymph nodes so she removed 10 of them. I'll be seeing her a week from today. Today is only my 2nd day after surgery and am feeling pretty good tonight. I slept quite a bit today, and reduced my pain meds. So glad I picked up my mastectomy shirt and pillow, they are life savers for comfort.
-
new here also. DiagnosedMonday. Lumpectomy next Wednesday . looks to be under 10mm, positive hormone receptors, HER 2 pos. . Not sure how I feel at this point
-
cangold- it’s so good to hear your doing well! It’s always hard knowing they found something in the lymph nodes but I’m wishing you as few as humanly possible.
Boxingmama- I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s an unimaginable thing to be dealing with, but at least the tumor looks small and being hormone receptor positive is a good thing I hear as it gives you more treatment options. Wishing you luck on your surgery (:
-
Cangold - glad to learn that you are doing well. Mine will be on 3/31. I'm super nervous right now. May I ask you how did your surgeon see the cancer in your lymph nodes? Did he/she find out before the mastectomy?
-
Cangold glad to hear you are doing well. Mine is March 29. I did get those pillows so happy to hear they will be of value. Hang in these.
-
EZhang123, My surgeon saw the cancer in lymph nodes when she was cutting tissue for the biopsy during surgery.
update: I'll be seeing my BC surgeon on Wed 3/17, so I'll find out everything and then start the process. I'm recovery pretty good, only thing that hurts are the tubes sometimes pressing against this bra they gave me and it feels like a knife sharp shooting pains ...ouch..
-
Glad to know you are doing ok!!!
-
Keep us posted! waiting fir my surgery. Triple positive so terrified!!!!

I am just under 2 weeks post-fat grafting. Had my follow up today, and stitches removed.
So far things look good. My PS commented it was really hard to get fat off me (took from my abdomen again so I think I am all tapped out there now) but I think it looks like he did a good job getting enough to soften the primary areas. Hoping enough sticks this time - so far a couple weeks out looks like more stuck than last surgery at this point. I really don’t think I want to go through that again so I want to be done with surgery for a long, long, long while.
Will go back for tattoo touch ups (kept my nipples but they lightened a lot and are a little optically uneven so had tattoos to fix that but they lightened quite a bit). Then hopefully done done.
Got all clear to basically do whatever I want no restrictions today too. Hot tub, swimming, regular workouts (not just walking/low impact), etc. Yay!
-
Had tubes removed yesterday..yay.. everything on the report are clear,..yay,stitches will come out next wednesday. I'm going to MO on Monday, will get the pill and see what else will happen. This was super quick with all the tests and surgery and now recovery. I'm grateful for that yearly mammogram I took in December 2020, plus an excellent BS surgeon.

Hi y’all
I have been diagnosed in early January, right breast upper outer quadrant its about 2.9-3.0 cm. After all the other tests and check ups, we found a 1cm mass in the left breast. After biopsy it came back benign but with the same markers as the right cancer. Soo Monday the 22 I’ll have a lumpectomy right and removal of the 1cm left. Also all lymph nodes on the right auxiliary.
I’m ready to get rid of the tumor but are also very nervous about the whole thing. Or should I say about all the unknowns, tubes etc.
Tomorrow morning is the seed placement, wondering how that will go. I’m trying to be strong for my family but it seems I’m on a roller coaster of feelings lately. Sorry for the whining

Are hard spots in breasts normal after lumpectomy with reduction and lifts?
-
Hi, new here, had surgery 21st of february.
I am not from USA, so sorry for my grammar.
Had mastectomy with reconstruction, my limph nodes were negative from the start.
Tumor was 2.6 cm. I had complete response to chemo.
Op lasted around 3.5 h. They forced me to take pain meds, I was little sore but not pained. So they asked me if I was taking meds on my own. I wasn't. After two days I was discharged. Only problem I still have is that my wound from relocating nipple is wery slowly closing.
Asked them about that, they said to me that it was big trauma for skin, and it doesn't happen often. So I was the "lucky" one.
About procedure I don't remember anything so dont be afraid, they knock the hell out of U.

I’m just curious, how many people are staying in the hospital overnight with mastectomies?
I have specifically asked my surgeon to let me stay one night.Luckily she had no objections. I guess I’ll find out next week how it goes.
-
I had my L breast mastectomy on 3/8, I went home that night after 2.5 hrs & lymph nodes removal. I’m 65 years young
-
Hi cangold,
I'm glad you had a quick recovery, the timeline is really impressive! Can you please share more information about the mastectomy shirt and pillow that you got? There are many options on Amazon and I don't know which ones to get. I'll have my bilateral mastectomy on April 14th. Thank you so much!
-
Hi TXLorelei,
I'm not sure if this helps. My surgeon gave me two OR facilities to choose from where she is affiliated with. One has the option to stay overnight, the other one does not. She was okay with both and told me that most people go home few hours after the mastectomy, assuming the reconstruction is not done at the same time of course. I personally chose the one that allows me to stay overnight if needed. But she was not even concerned about it, so I guess very rare cases need to stay in the hospital.
I also got the impression that she would be okay with me to stay for one night if that would be my preference.
-
I've stayed for two days, but I am not in USA, so I don't count.
I wish U surgery with no pain after like mine was.
To me it was much easier than chemo.
I got up like 10 mins after.
They followed me around for bit, but realized that I'm fine. Good luck. 🤞

Hi april_bc, I probably spoke to soon, but been having problems w/ fluid still filling up. My bc surgeon drained again today 2 oz. I had the tubes removed 10 days after surgery. I'll go back next wednesday & will probably get the tubes again. The pillow I have is awesome, Amazon Moyoama Post Mastecomy Pillow w/ pink stripes. The shirt is Renova Medical wear Mastectomy Recovery Shirt. Hope that helps.
-
Had a right mastectomy and a left reduction on Monday. Feeling good. Today i have swelling on right breast. Feels like fluid retention but still draining well. Doc says it is normal. Not feeling much pain. Thankful. Will keep monitoring.
