Confused and worried
I discovered a lump in my right breast a few weeks ago. I saw my doctor yesterday and they have ordered a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. That appointment is March 4th.
My lump is at least 1 inch and is hard and fixed/attached but not irregular...I have no pain
does anyone know what it could mean? Can that still be benign?
I turn 50 on Saturday in case she matters

Hi Chrissie. I’m sorry you are confused and scared. Try not to make yourself crazy over this-worrying won’t change anything and I’ve seen lots of women come through here who made themselves literally sick for weeks over things that turned out to be nothing
Can it still be benign? Of course it could, At fifty you could be perimenopausal when our hormones act up again. Could be a cyst, or even a new fibroadenoma-contrary to popular belief, women in their fifties do still get them, and yes, it could be cancer. Try not to get hung up on whether things feel fixed or immoveable because often the specialists in this disagree with our assessments. Glad you aren’t having to wait forever for your appointment.
Have a happy birthday tomorrow and come back to let us know what you find out.

Hi Chrissie,
Just confirming everything MelissaDallas said - I developed lots of cysts at your age, and while I was much younger when I had my fibroadenomas, I've seen quite a few women come through this site who have had fibroadenomas in their late 40s or early 50s. So yes, this lump could be benign.
Happy Birthday tomorrow - enjoy it! Try not to think about the lump and the upcoming imaging; it is what it is, and no amount of thought or worry is going to change that. Hopefully it does turn out to be something harmless.
Good luck on the 4th and let us know how it goes.

Just want to welcome you Chrissie! I can't really add to the feedback given already - other than I had a second fibroadenoma found soon after my DCIS was discovered. The fibro was new and I'm 58! Keep us updated on new developments!

thank you everyone! I am trying not to panic and am of course hoping for harmless. I’m relieved it’s mostly defined edges but worried that it is immobile and hard. It extends from my nipple upwards (top center of right breast) I did have to have a large cyst aspirated before. I think it was a complex cyst and that came back fine but this feels completely different and I am an anxious person especially when I don’t have all info (insert self depreciating laugh here) I am trying to remain calm and I know I shouldn’t but I’m reading up on all benign and cancerous lumps. 🤦🏻♀️ It kind of helps I feel I need the information so that I can feel more prepared and confident. I don’t want to go in and if it turns out to be serious or not i want to understand every word they they say to me I hope that makes sense
Thank you so much for the Birthday wishes! I truly appreciate everyone’s kindness, the help, and the support!
Xx
