Not something I ever hoped to say. It's been 7years since my lumpectomy and inter operative radiation. Went in today for my annual diagnostic mammogram and they found a 9mm lump BIRADS 4c. Ultrasounds punch biopsy set for 2/23. Prayers please? I'm not optimistic, but again, thankful that they found it early

I talked with my oncologist in general terms - understanding that I don't have the biopsy yet. She said that since I had IORT last time, it is likely that I will not have to have mastectomy this time around. I can probably do either IORT again or partial or whole breast radiation. Back when I did IORT the first time (2014), it was part of a clinical trial. Since then has it become readily available to anyone for whom it is appropriate or is it still in the clinical trial stage?

So, had the needle core biopsy today - that was a really easy procedure. I felt nothing more than a little prick for a second when she put the numbing in. I got to watch the ultrasound monitor while she did it so that was kind of interesting. I should know by Thursday. Fingers crossed

Thank you all for the kind words. It is cancer ... IDC, 8mm (just a bit out of the duct). Having an MRI tomorrow just to confirm that it is only 8mm and has not spread (they do not think it has but apparently follow up MRIs are now standard of care) and then will meet with my breast surgeon to discuss a plan. Hopefully just a lumpectomy and perhaps IORT again. We shall see. Thankful it is small and was caught early.

Darn, I'm sorry. I hope the rest of the news from here on out is good!

    Good luck with the MRI.

So, I had the MRI today (that was just tons of fun) and won't get the report until next week. However, I did get copies of the films to give to my breast surgeon on Wednesday and could I keep myself from looking at them? Noooo. Could I keep myself from googling what the different colors mean? Noooo. Do I have any idea what the MRI says? Noooo. Have I scared the crap out of myself? YES. Must. Stay. Away. From. Dr. Google.

    Hi Pokemom,

So sorry to hear that it's IDC. You will get through it and it sounds like it was caught early! I hate that you have to wait through the weekend to get to talk to someone. Yeah, I would say, don't look at the images, it can only make things worse. Try to keep yourself busy and distracted. You are in Southern California, which is hopefully warm and sunny. Nature is one of the things that really helps me with distraction. Maybe it will help you too.

Stay away from Dr. Google! LOL! I can't either. But limit what you look at then do something else.

    Keep us updated.

    :)

So, I suppose I should move to the recently diagnosed forum. The pathology report from the biopsy came back at 8mm IDC, Grade 3, ER+/PR+ and HER2 negative. The MRI showed a possibility of a couple more very small spots adjacent to the original spot (now 9mm per the MRI), but apparently so close that they will be taken care of by the surgery with no additional testing necessary. I see the breast surgeon on Wednesday so should know more then. Thank you all for the support - it means the world.

recently diagnosed forum or IDC forum - obviously you'll fit various sites - you may want to start checking out more of the Surgery forums/threads as well since that will be in your future... You likely noticed already there is a new one started each month ... you could jump into March now and if your surgery ends up being April you could join then too - whatever you are comfortable with. You may have even done this already.... Wishing you the BEST Pokemom!!!

Thanks Livin ... I'm meeting with the breast surgeon tomorrow. Once I know my plan, I'll move into other forums. *sigh*
