Feeling very worried

Hi all,

I have had ongoing breast “sensations" in one breast. Sometimes burning in breast/arm pit, tingling, tickling. I have one spot that may be tender in bottom part of breast. This isn't the normal cyclic pain. I have had it in the past and had ultrasound and they never have found anything. It has now reared its ugly head about two years ago and just chalked it up to hormonal but started getting really anxious about it and went to the doctor in a panic and crying because I am convinced it is cancer. I am 37.

I don't have a lump and the doctor said he never felt anything concerning. I have a hard ridge around inner breast (doctor says it is my rib). He sent me for a mammogram and booked and ultrasound for “double reassurance" and I went to mammogram today. The tech said normally they would take pictures and then she would check with radiologist and if he wants more pictures or an ultrasound we would do that, but my doctor ordered an ultrasound at another location (not hospital) to give me double reassurance, so the mammogram tech said that I would just go there. Now that I had my mammogram I have no indication on if the saw anything concerning or not...and I am having a lot of anxiety. So much the doctor put me on an antidepressant.

Like I said I have no lump, no redness, no nipple discharge, no dimples or puckering. One breast is bigger and firmer than the other but I am not sure if this is new or not. Also on one side my nipple is almost straight up and down and on the bad side it is more at an angle and slightly dipped in in the middle rather than rounded like the other one-is this normal?!? Does it mean my nipple is retracting?

I have been having shoulder pain, elbow pain, and some pain in back below shoulder blade so absolutely convinced of worst case scenario. But because of my anxiety I feel like I can't trust any of these symptoms.

Anyway I have to wait for the ultrasound to call and have an appointment there until I find out for sure I guess. I might try to call and get mammogram results from doctor next week.

Anybody have any thoughts or shared symptoms/experience

It is completely normal for breasts to be different from each other. "They're sisters, not twins" is the saying I like to use. Things that are new changes are potentially concerning but you're doing all the right things right now - the mammogram + ultrasound is above and beyond. I hope the antidepressant kicks in soon & relieves your anxiety. You might look into seeking out a therapist for some talk therapy as well to alleviate health anxiety.

One thing you can also consider is massage therapy for your back. Breast nerves come from your spine and poor posture, slumping over computer or phone, sleeping 'funny' can all impact those nerves and can present as pain in the breast or ribcage area. The type of tingling come & go pain really does sound to me like it could be nerve impingement. Seeing a registered massage therapist, heating pads for your back, yoga for upper back.. these might all be things to try.

I totally agree with sister Moth. What you're feeling can come from the muscle spasms at your back. I have it since last year. My ultrasounds were all negative. But the breast pain persists. I decided to book for back and shoulder therapy session, plus pectoralis muscles. It gave me a lot of improvent on my left breast (which had the pain before). Now I have pain in right breast, right shoulder , and back. US was negative so I think I'm having serious muscle spasms that I will book again for TP sessions. 😊

My job is always sitting in front of computer. Hence my shoulder and back spasms.

I want to mention also, tho my US are negative. I have a lot of clustered small cysts. So many of them that could be possible cause of my breast pain. It felt like a big lump too before

Interesting! I will have to look into that.

I got my results from mammogram today and all clear, but noted that breasts aredense and they want to do a follow up mammogram in a year.

I am still waiting for ultrasound appt
