Is it normal to feel the lymph nodes that are at the side of the breast next to the sternum? I do regular month SBE and never paid to much attention, but this time I did feel some small smooth bean Iike shapes. I don’t know if they are lymph nodes or part of my breast. I feel them on both sides but they are more prominate on one side (the less dense side) compared to the other side which is more dense

I’ve never heard of anyone being able to feel inframammary lymph nodes. They are usually just noted on imaging as visualized. I don’t know whether they are even close enough to the sternum to be palpated. My impression has always been that they lie fairly deep within the breast tissue

Are you feeling this within the breast tissue or on the side or under the breast? Could it be the edges of ribs that you are feeling, or some cartilage? If it's similar on both sides, it's probably normal anatomy. Our bodies are not symmetrical, so it's normal that something on one side might feel larger or smaller than the other.

Have you had breast cancer in the past? I quickly scanned your past posts and saw reference to a lumpectomy. Do you have regular follow-ups? And when is your next imaging scheduled?

I scanned the past posts too and think it was removal of a papilloma that was negative. Is that correct Totohurt? So far you have not been diagnosed with breast cancer? Do let us know and keep us updated on this thread.

Good comments from Melissa & Beesie.

I’m just feeling a little line of small smooth bumps right on the edge of my breast near the sternum. I thought maybe it was the lymph nodes but it sounds like I wouldn’t be able to feel those. Maybe just part of the breast that I haven’t paid attention to before

But is is correct that you have never been diagnosed with breast cancer?

If you are concerned, the traditional wisdom is to call your doc if nothing changes after 2 weeks.

No breast cancer. I have my yearly mammogram this Monday. I always seem to get anxious before and tend to over check my breasts I think.

Glad you have your mammo coming up. Good luck. Please check back on this same thread instead of starting another one. We'll be waiting.

Oh, good. Glad you have the mammogram coming up. Point out what you are feeling and ask that it be checked.

Let us know how it goes! Good luck!
