Lymph Node Discomfort Before Surgery.

Hello everyone,

My mom was diagnosed with grade 1 ILC and has a mastectomy scheduled for 3/1. Recently she's been feeling a bit of pressure and discomfort just below her armpit and it has me worried that the cancer has spread. Previously she had a targeted ultrasound of her left axilla and they found two mildly enlarged nodes (1.8cm and 1.2cm) but the report also stated that they had normal cortical thickness.

I did some research and found that abnormal cortical thickness means a higher likelihood of the cancer being there so that part was at least something positive. Regardless I'm preparing myself for the worst and I'm just posting to ask if it is a telltale sign that her cancer has metastasized. Thank you.

edit: I forgot to mention, there are days where she says she feels fine and just on some days in which she feels discomfort so it’s not ongoing or constant.

Honestly, it's impossible to tell. Some people have pain and others don't. I would not think that on its own it's a sign of anything.

I would try to ignore it because I think the mind likes to run away with us. Whatever it is, you'll face it & deal with it then. Grade 1 is something good to hang on to - it's the slowest growing type so that is a hopeful sign.
