Quarter Sized Red Spot
Hello everyone. A little over a week ago I got off work, took my bra off and immediately noticed a perfect redish circle on my right breast. It starts on the bottom right outer part of my areola and extends onto my actual breast. It's the size of quarter. I thought it was so strange, and 8 days later it is still there. It is a PERFECT circle. Redish in color. No texture to it. My areola looks like it may be a little swollen in that area where the spot is. 22 years old, in good health, cup size 34D, not pregnant, no piercings or children. Today my worries got the best of me because google has me convinced it is IBC. I know, it's rare, but regardless it DOES happen and that's what scares me. Can anyone give me any input? Could it start as this perfectly circle red spot? Not raised. Not itchy. Not textured. You can see it clearly when looking at my breasts. Should I ask for that punch test thing? Am I just paranoid? I have an appointment tomorrow but I know I am not going to be able to sleep and just looking for any input.

If I were 22 (or any age) a perfect circle would make me think fungal (like ringworm or something similar) or another skin condition. Any kind of cancer would be way down my list of possibilities. I keep benadryl cream, cortisone cream and athletes foot cream on hand and one or a combination of those things pretty much fixes any skin thing I have going.

It's easy to get scared when you google something because even the most common harmless condition has some possibility of being something serious. The way I deal with that for myself is that if Serious Condition ABC has 5 symptoms and I only have 1, I scratch it off the list and move on to something else my symptom might be. IBC has 7 or 8 common symptoms. You have 1 - and even at that your symptom isn't exhibiting like an IBC rash would. To me it doesn't sound like IBC then.
So I agree with MelissaDallas. With what you describe, I'd be thinking "how do I get rid of this skin rash?" and I'd try out various ointments (like her, I keep of stash of every kind on hand) for at least a couple of weeks before I'd even consider seeing a doctor. Only if I couldn't get rid of it or it got worse would I go to my PCP or a dermatologist.
IBC is rare. And IBC in someone your age? Beyond extremely rare. Skin rashes are common - and breasts have a lot of skin and often get moist, which is good environment for rashes to develop. My advice is to treat it like a skin rash and don't worry.

amynoak, welcome to Breastcancer.org! We are sorry that your present concerns have brought you here. We understand that you're worried about your red spot, sometimes it can be really scary! But keep in mind that most breast changes are not related to cancer, specially at your age. Anyway, it's good that you're being proactive and seeing your doctor tomorrow, because even if it's not serious, changes to your breasts and breast health should always be checked out by a medical professional.
Let us know what you learn tomorrow!
