Pregnant with breast implants - upcoming biopsy for IBC
Hi Ladies,
I'm mostly looking to find similar testimonies because so far, I haven't found anyone who'd be in a similar situation.
I'm 36, 29w pregnant with my first baby. I've had silicone breast implants for 14 years ( I think it's worth pointing out even if the docs have never really mentioned it as a possible factor).
Since the beginning of this pregnancy, my breasts have at least doubled size ( I was a C cup before and I'm probably a double D now) .
Mid December, my left breast ( which is the biggest in general) got a red rash below the nipple: not itchy, but red almost purply and hot to the touch. I immediately thought that there was an issue with my implants. Went to see a GP who didn't think so and gave me a cream with steroids to treat it as an allergy. Didn't help at all.
I went back and in the meantime, my right one was also starting to bother me ( I have a lot of red stretch marks on the right one) .
GP thought it could be an infection so I got 5 days of antibiotics while taking Claritin in case it was still an allergy.
By the end of December , both my breasts were fully red and hot to the touch just like a sunburn. However it comes and goes. It sometimes flares up and my nipples get huge and both boobs are super hot and sometimes they're almost normal, however you can still distinguish a fainted redness.
I also have peau d'orange on both, it seems even more obvious on the left one but it is on both.
After trying ALL their useless creams, I went back probably for the 4th time and finally got an appointment for an US.
It was last week. I can't remember exactly what the specialist told me after the US but it didn't seem to show much because of my breasts density however because I have peau d'orange + redness , she sent me to get a mammogram the same day.
The mammogram didn't show much either but she said " you're not out of the woods yet, even if IBC on both breasts would be extremely rare, we need to rule it out " and I wasn't surprised because after a ton of researches online, IBC was unfortunately the only disease matching my symptoms.
I now have a guided biopsy planned in 3 days.
It's extremely weird to be creating life and think about your own death at the same time. Some days I'm so optimistic. Then sometimes, I just let the fear cripple in. But I push it back as quickly as possible.
I am a pretty spiritual person ( not religious but spiritual) and I am ready to accept what's coming, whatever it is but of course, the wait is tough, the idea of a biopsy too as my boobs already hurt ( not when I touch them by the way. They're just too warm and too big) .
What's weird is that beside my breasts, I feel so good! I am almost certain that what I have is a reaction to my implants + pregnancy hormones but can't find anything about that on the Breast implants illness websites or groups.
Anyone with similar stories, I'd love to hear from you. What was the outcome ? Did you also have implants?
Thanks for reading me, this community is actually so helpful.

I didn't have implants so I can't speak to that.
What type of guided biopsy are you getting? The biopsies I've had have for the most part been aimed at something they could see by imaging. The two exceptions was an FNA directly in my lump and my punch biopsies.

Thank you for your answer !
Tbh, they didn’t really take the time to explain me the differences between biopsies so I’m guessing the one I’m getting is a punch biopsy because my skin has peau d’orange and is very thick.I didn’t really hear about a specific lump that they could have found orwanted to study...

Usually people don't have a lump, my case was unusual.
Hopefully the punch biopsy will come back negative. IBC in both breasts is extremely rare. Problems with breast implants is not rare!

Thank you @blue22, I think that there are so many different stories and cases out there. I'm hoping it's due to the implants and will be able to get rid of them a few months after giving birth but we will see. Biopsy is tomorrow and I should get results within a week. ( a bit scared of the biopsy even though I read that the pain was ok )
-
Best with the biopsy! I wouldn't be surprised if it's not the implants as well.... I hope that's the case - would hopefully be a better prognosis than cancer or pre-cancer, esp. better than IBC! Let us know how things go tomorrow.....
-
haha , you wouldn’t be surprised if it IS or if it ISN’T the implants?
Yes, I’ll definitely update . Won’t get the results of the biopsy before another week anyway so it’ll take a bit of time . But I will absolutely update because I’ve stumbled upon many posts here where we’re never really told the final outcome and I know it’s frustrating .

Pamplemousse--my very best wishes to you; I know how anxious you must feel. I was diagnosed with IBC in January; weirdly I do have a small lump (IDC) found by US and my skin punch biopsies indicated "no sign of carcinoma." I'm still puzzled over that, but I did have a pink-ish bruise on my breast and some swelling. Since IBC is a clinical diagnosis there's no exact laboratory test that confirms it.
I don't have implants, but have a couple of friends who have had issues with them. I'm hoping for your sake that the symptoms are implant-related and can be resolved. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this at what should be a joyous time in your life. Let us know what happens.

LW422: thank you so much and I’m so sorry that you’re going through this, from the bottom of my heart.
I wish you a prompt and smooth healing even I know that it’s easy to say it.One thing for sure : it is definitely here on this community that we can chat with women who really understand what we are going through, physically and mentally. Friends and family are here for us but they don’t always understand what can be crossing our minds through times like this.
I’ll give an update for sure to help any other women who will be making the same researches one day.

If you look through the other many, many questions on this site similar to yours, you'll see that bilateral IBC is almost unheard-of, like so extremely rare that the one or two cases EVER found are written up in medical journails. The suggestions I've seen are to see a dermatologist, which is the right doctor to deal with skin issues, including punch biopsies of the breast skin.
