Memory Loss

Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with memory loss. I am 4 years past chemotherapy, but I am still dealing with it. I've reported this to my oncologist. He told me he thinks it has nothing to do with the chemo, but I didn't start noticing this until chemo. Word loss is my biggest problem -- mainly proper nouns, like names of my students, celebrities, song titles, book titles, television shows, movies -- all things that used to come to me quickly. Words that are three syllables or longer are difficult for me to recall, at times. Sometimes I have to tell people to slow down because I have trouble following fast talking, instructions, or lists. It is embarrassing and sometimes affects my work. Is anyone else dealing with this?

Yes I have permanent brain damage due to Taxotere according to neurologist. . I am 7 years out. If under stress or overtired I get hand tremor and lose the ability to talk, can only say first syllable of words, but repeat it 3 or 4 times. I have hand tremors when doing any fine motor skills. Memory loss is about the same as yours.

I think your doctor is sadly ill informed. Aphasia and cognitive issues are well known side effects of many of the chemo therapy drugs. Hence the term "chemo brain ". It is real and it can be devastating. I was a writer before cancer. Now I struggle for simple words. I'm hoping it gets better, but for now I make jewelry. Cancer steals so much from us.

One thing that seems to help me is Ashwagandha. I take it daily with my vitamins.

Good luck. Hope you find something that helps you.
