Nipple discharge

I am curious as to what could cause nipple discharge in only one breast and primarily after wearing a bra.

I went to breast clinic about a year ago for the issue along with some nipple retraction. Nothing was found after I had US of nipple area and a mammogram.

At the time I didn't notice bra use was related as I wore a bra daily but due to working from home for the best part of 12 months, I have noticed that it mostly occurs when I have been wearing a bra. If I go braless it almost doesn't happen.

There is no colour and it is slightly sticky.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone had similar?

I am in the UK and services are at a minimum so I don't want to take up any time that would be better given to someone else.

Thanks

Hi SALYHA, and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry for the worries that bring you here, but we're really glad you've found us. It's great that you're being so diligent about your breast health, and we hope you find answers and experiences from others here soon.

While you wait for others to weigh in, we'd like to suggest perhaps following up with your doctor again to let them know your symptom has not lessened or gone away. Perhaps they can take a sample of the discharge to look for anything that may be unusual? According to our main Breastcancer.org site, breast discharge can be a sign of a benign condition, but also may be a cause for further concern. But, you won't know this unless/until your doctor can take a closer look.

We hope this helps. Please keep us posted with what you find out!

    Hi Salyha,

I had unilateral and spontaneous nipple discharge. I had a ductogram, ultrasound and mammogram all normal. The radiologist said that thevdischarge could be caused by papillomas or duct ectasia. As the discharge continued, I was referred to a surgeon, then I was diagnosed with DCIS and after with IDC. However it doesn’t mean that you have DCIS or IDC. I remember the surgeon saying that only in 10-12% of the cases malignancy is found. Unfortunately I was in that small percentage. I also recomend to follow-up with your doctor again. Good luck

    Salyha,

I’m in the process of getting an answer to why I have nipple discharge from one duct on one side. Mine is has blood in it. I’ve had diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound, yesterday I had a core biopsy. Through all of this I have been assured by 2 surgeon and a radiologist that nipple discharge is most often benign and a nuisance.

So, while I don’t have an answer yet, I wanted to share with you what I have been told. Also to say that I suggest following up on it as the other ladies have suggested.

    Je
