Painful Urination
Here I am writing again as I am worried again. This time my symptoms are painful urination, cloudy smelly urine (greyish - white). I did a urine and culture test and came back negative. No UTI. Apparently the sample had bacterial contamination. Doctor prescribed canesten for 3 days to rule out yeast infection. Did first treatment yesterday and didn’t see improvement I don’t know what I should do. Could it be something more serious? Like recurrence?

What you should do is continue with the prescription until it is complete, 3 days. Then check in with the doctor if you still have concerns.

I had a non UTI infection that was like a UTI on doxil, I too didn't have anything show up in the urine or culture. GPO prescribed a sulfa anitbiotic anyway which I took for 5 days, it didn't help until the very last day. Said it could have been a kidney infection or just inflammation from the drug. Either way, annoying to say the least.

MountainMia - Im really contemplating in switching to antibiotics tonight...I’m in so much pain.
GG27 - so why did GPO prescribed an antibiotic if it wasn’t an UTI?
-
Hi, Usually if the urine sample is contaminated they ask for a repeat urine sample. Did they let you know right a way or 3-days after? I would ask for a repeat urine culture to be done. This can only be accurate if you are not on an antibiotic. Your doctor usually will have you start one while waiting for the culture to come back. The culture will show if you have an infection and if so what would be the best antibiotic for you to take to resolve it. I think if you had a yeast infection you would definitely know it. The antifungal cream doesn't seem to be giving you any relief.

I posted here thinking I had a UTI or bladder cancer or god knows what...they did a urinalysis and no UTI. I was peeing SO much that I got up countless times at night and could barely make it from home to a grocery store. NO JOKE. My issue was lack of estrogen (no surprise). Once I started vaginal estrogen, it is like having my life back. I was never rx antibiotics because the culture found nothing.
I think Beesie posted to my original post saying her urinalysis also showed no UTI but with antibiotics, her issue resolved and that upwards of 30% of urinalysis fail to detect actual UTIs.
You could try D-Mannose to see if that helps.
No one appreciates their bladders till they bother us. I'm so very sorry you are dealing with this.
Best to you.

flashlight- they only told me after 3 days; yeah I’m not sure I have a yeast infection so I’m continuing the treatment for the yeast infection however I decided to take the antibiotics too I had to stop in the middle of street and pee 😳
Thanks wallycat for your reply Is vaginale estrogen is it safe to take especially us with BC ??

Eigna, GPO gave me an antibiotic because I am on chemo & he said there is obviously an infection somewhere, I'd had symptoms for several weeks & my white blood counts & ANC were low. He didn't want to leave me over the weekend suffering as I was.

Eigna, yes, vaginal suppositories or Estring are allowed with breast cancer. My onco refuses to rx the cream---that can be more readily absorbed and at much higher doses if used as rx.
I know some gals do use the cream but not the recommended amount (much less ...dots and dabs vs 1/4 inch of it).My onco, my gyn and Susan Love (well known advocate for breast cancer) all say it is safe. I did my own research and the amount of serum estrogen is as low as post menopause is.
For myself, I was scared to try it, but, my quality of life meant I had to.
Many post meno gals who have never had UTIs start to develop them when our tissue thins from menopause, never mind what cancer drugs do to us. I guess I will never know if I am in the 30% that got an inaccurate urinalysis, but the estrogen inserts did resolve it, so I have to suspect I never did have the UTI. I also started to take d-mannose because I have to presume that the amount of estrogen may not be enough to fully plump my tissue. Since I don't believe it can harm me and may be helping me, it's just one more thing for protection.
If you are super nervous with the estrogen, you could try the Imvexxy that is available in 4 mcg. Usual inserts are 10mcg. I switch with the Estring (a ring you leave in for 3 months and it parses out about 7.6mcg daily) and then 2 months or so of Imvexxy 10mcg 2xweek.

Eigna - talk to your doctor about estrogen. It's a very controversial issue, especially as you are ER+.
Glad you're taking antibios, since it could be a bladder or UTI infection in addition to yeast infection. Nothing more painful than an urgent need to pee and horrible burning pain when you do.
-
I will talk to my doctor about lack of estrogen for sure. I’m on day two of antibiotics and the smellOdor has gone away and my urine is clear. However the pain is still there but not as much as initially. I have a few phone calls to do today. Let’s see which doctor will pick up the phone.
