Acc Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI)-Phase II Clinical Trial

Hi All,

Has anyone signed up for or been in any previous clinical trial for APBI? I was diagnosed in August with Triple Positive IDC..tumor size 1cm, clear nodes and margins. I just finished 12 weeks of Taxol with every 3 weeks of Herceptin (which I have to finish to complete a year). My radiology oncologist at Sloan Kettering offered me to undergo this trial. It is for woman 50+. I am 49 and fit all the requirements for it (except for being off by one year). He is going to speak to my Breast Surgeon and Oncologist to see if they approve of me doing it. I am having a hard time making a decision whether I should do it or not. Standard of care is 20 rounds of rads every day (Mon-Fri) over 4 weeks, 3 weeks of full breast radiation with 1 week of partial (booster). This trial would mean that I would do it for only 3 days and it would be partial breast!! My radiologist said the dosage and side effects are the same. I'm stressing because, of course, 3 days sounds wonderful compared to 4 weeks! If anyone is in this trial any feedback would be great? TIA

    Hi Crissap

Welcome! I am also interested in the responses you receive. I'm older than you (63) with Er+/PR+/Her- cancer. I'm getting APBI for 5 days (scheduled every other day). While I'm happy I to receive only 5 treatments. I am concerned it is not enough to get any cancer cells left behind.

    Wishing you the best.

Hi crissap and Harley07! Crissap, welcome to BC.org! Just a suggestions to help you find answers. If you go to the Search function in the blue menu and type in "APBI" (without the quotes) as your search term, you'll see every time this word has been mentioned in a post, and can then check out the thread and/or contact the member who posted it. We hope this helps. Good luck!
