Chest CT

Options

Hello, I’m new posting here. I am 6 years out of a Stage 1 er/pr + diagnosis- no lymph nodes involved. I had a ct of my chest performed yesterday due to new chest pain. The results from my healthcare portal came through before I had a chance to speak to my doctor and I’m very concerned. The scan noted that my lungs were clear and didn’t mention any lymph nodes. However, my spleen showed multiple lesions. I am curious if this has happened to anyone else and if so, how did your doctor proceed? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Harp... I really do not know about spleen lesions and whether or not these may or may not relate to breast cancer mets, etc. I see you posted about 8 hours ago - I'm hoping you hear something back from your ordering provider soon... today even. Were there any recommendations made on the CT report? They do not always do that though sometimes they will just recommend a re-scan which would be a decent indicator for you. I had this with lung CT's in the past - was still worrisome though I knew it wasn't anything emergent since they recommended re-scan in 6 months which helped.... If you don't hear anything from your doc in the next day or two (and I hope you will) I'd encourage you to call them.... Please let us know once you hear something. I hope others on this site have more specific info to offer you....

Livinlife- Thank you so much for your response. My oncologist sent me for an ultrasound this morning as well. He says the lesions are likely benign, however he’s now requesting I have an MRI next. I’m thankful he’s trying to be proactive, but now I have to wait a while for my MRI. The anxiety is terrible!

    Hi Harp,

I'm glad your oncologist is being proactive and hopefully you will have a definitive answer soon. I can say that in my time on BCO I don't recall anyone mentioned metastasis to the spleen. I think it is quite uncommon, particularly as early progression. Liver, lungs and bones are the favorite targets for MBC.

I wish I could say something to take your anxiety levels down. Wishing you a speedy MRI and quick answers!

Sadiesservant- Thank you for your reply. It is reassuring that it’s uncommon. Although I can’t help but still worry. I received a call from the clinic that myinsurance denied my MRI as of now. Hopefully it will get resolved and be scheduled soon.

Yikes on denial - only b/c I think the initial news your onc is not worried is good. At the same time the MRI, esp. since recommended, would offer you peace of mind. If for some reason your insurance denial does not change ask your onc for their next best option.... thinking something like another CT in 3 or 6 months, etc. 6 months is typically standard tho depends on level of concern.... At least that way you know there is follow-up since your onc seemed to want one more assurance for you.

Yes, I’m thankful he’s not worried and I’ll definitely explore other options. This is all just so worrisome. Hoping for an answer soon.

Thank you all for your comment and replies. I finally have an answer and it’s benign! They think they are hemangiomas on spleen and are fairly rare. I do go back for a follow up mri in April just for peace of mind.
