Shooting pain in both breast

Hello.

I am having serious shooting breast pain in both breasts, which started about 2 months ago. I never had it before, I thought it was PMS or hormonal changes (just turned 50) but for the last 2 months it is constant ,not cyclical, and painful.

The pain prompted a visit to my gyno. I had an ultrasound exam and a lump was found in both breast and swelling in the left lymph node. I have a biopsy scheduled for next week. Though all of this is unfortunate, my main purpose in posting this message is to know if anyone has experienced shooting pain in both breasts that came on rather suddenly. Even my gyno said it was inconsistent with my other symptoms.

Marcia, I'm sorry you're in pain. I've never had shooting pains like you are describing. My lumps were never painful. Do let us know how your biopsy goes.

I did have shooting pains in my breast before diagnosis that were not cyclical. The whole

“cancer does not hurt" is a myth.

Hi Marcia! Welcome though sorry you need to be here... I had pain as well before and after diagnosis. Some will say the latter is related to stress of diagnosis, etc. I do not believe mine was. I don't recall, oddly, whether I had shooting pains, though do recall it felt like nerve pain at times and definitely an aching feeling at other times. These feelings were definitely isolated to my left breast where I had DCIS.

Bilateral breast cancer does happen, but only a very small percentage or bilateral, so if you are experiencing it in both breasts it makes it less likely the pain is cancer
