Reconstruction?

Dear everyone,

I am now five years post-cancer and I have started to begin to consider getting my breasts reconstructed - not least because I have BRCA2. However I worry that a reconstruction might trigger the old breast cancer. Any thoughts on this? I have a two year old son (born via surrogacy) so I do not want to risk anything.

Greetings from Mette (Sweden)

    Mette,

What evidence have you seen to indict that delayed reconstruction increases risk of “triggering “ a breast cancer recurrence? While there are pluses and minuses to any procedure, I have never heard of recon triggering a recurrence. Have you discussed this with your oncologist? Best wishes

Hi, I also have the BRCA2 mutation and had a double diep flap reconstruction nearly two years after diagnosis. I am now nearly four years out and I’m fine.

Thank you for your answers. I have spoken to my oncologist and although they say that it does not increase the risk, I still feel concerned. If I did not have te remove the one breast left, I would live happily with one breast.
