Tamoxifen and Swelling

I have been taking Tamoxifen for 9 months and have had some mild ankle swelling from time to time. Recently I’ve started having swelling in odd places, like on my arms just above my watch band, and on the side of my knee. I’m wondering if this swelling can also be related to the Tamoxifen, or if something else is going on? Has anyone else had odd edema while on Tamoxifen?

Mom2bill - yes I have on and off. I see it more in my feet/ankles. No rhyme or reason. When I was taking a single 20 mg pill a day, I also experienced carpel tunnel like pain in my hands that got pretty severe. After much testing, the ortho declared it wasn't carpel tunnel at all but inflammation/irritation for some unknown reason. When I changed my dosing to 10 mg 2x a day, the symptoms subsided at least so far.

Rah2464–Thanks for your response. I’m really hoping that Tamoxifen is the cause of the swelling. I wasn’t too surprised when my ankles got swollen for the first time and immediately assumed it was the medication. Now that I’m seeing it in my forearms and knees, I’m still hoping it’s the Tamoxifen and not something that indicates a new problem. I also changed my dose to 10mg twice a day back in October. That seems to have helped reduce the night sweats, morning ankle pain, and decreased the stiffness in my calves, so I am grateful for that. I have an appointment with my PCP on 1/15/21 for another issue, so I’ll see what she has to say about the swelling.

    Happy New Year

Mom2bill - glad you are pursuing an appointment with your PCP. It is always the best course to follow up with a doctor and make sure there isn't something else working. Best of luck!
