Waiting for Biopsy date

Hi,

I’ve been reading these forum for few days and they are so informative. I’m actually in great spirits as I try to stay positive and hope to be part of the 80%. However, I wonder if instead of being so confident, I should be doing more.

I just turned 40 5 weeks ago. No history of cancer (of any type). I suffer from endometriosis but other than that, pretty healthy. I had not even thought about a mammogram yet. However, I was scheduled for cosmetic surgery on 1/8 /21 and after all my pre ops were done and I was almost cleared for my procedure, plastic surgeon called and said you just turned 40, we need a mammogram. I scheduled one for the same day on 12/21. I kept being called for more images. I’m sure the radiologist, who was amazing, didn’t want to take any risk with my upcoming surgery. At the end, radiologist explained I have a highly suspicious cluster of calcifications on my right breast and needed biopsy. The next morning, the cosmetic procedure was cancelled. I don’t know the BIRAD, don’t have copies of anything and due to the holidays, a biopsy has not been scheduled. Should I contact my Ob-gyn? Should I be doing more? Am I too lay back?

Thanks for the support!

I’d check in with the radiology department that did the imaging Monday about the scheduling.

As to the reports, is there a patient portal? Even if you need to go through medical records, it is helpful to always obtain copies of both the reports and the imaging. Someday you may need to go to a different facility and you will be glad to have copies to provide for comparison purposes, rather than wait for the other facility to send them.

First mammogram, it is probably too early to get overly worried yet. Calcifications can be benign, or could commonly be DCIS.

I agree about getting copies. I cannot tell you how thankful I have been to have those for various things the last many years...! Hopefully they call you to schedule soon... if you don't hear from them (wherever you are getting that done) by mid-day Tuesday or certainly by Wednesday you may want to touch base with that office as well. Hopefully you will hear from them though. I've slipped through scheduling cracks at different points as well (not too often though) so.... Hopefully the biopsy goes well and you get good results. If not you have found a wonderful site full of great info and support....

Thanks! I will request copies and will contact them to follow up if I don’t hear by Wednesday

I finally received a copy of my report (I'm waiting for a biopsy next Thursday) and I think it doesn't look bad at all, but what do I know? I just turned 40, went for my first mammogram and was referred for a biopsy due to calcifications on my left breast. I've been so confident, but for the first time, felt a little sick when I saw the report today (not sure why). It says Bi Rad 4, and I don't see any of the usual terms I've seen in other people's reports. I'm not assuming that means is all good, but can't help to compare. I have one question and hopefully someone has some input on it. Report says indeterminate calcifications identified (radiologist mentioned in person that she didn't like the way they are group together), 6-8 cm from nipple at 12 and 2 and towards the end it says they appear pleomorphic. Doesn't say fine. Is this the same as microcalcifications or should I assume that they are bigger in size? Not sure if my question makes sense or even makes a difference, but was curious. Other than that I thought it was a clear, straight forward report. I'm still waiting for my Ob-gyn to call to discuss. Thank you and I wish everyone the best in their journey!

I copied and pasted your new post here to keep things all together in one place to make it easier for folks to respond to you in a thoughtful manner. Pleomorphic calcifications vary in size and shape, rather than being more consistent. Here’s the BCO section explaining calcifications:
