Hi,

I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between the two tests. I had the oncotype test ordered by my oncologist & it came back as a 12 for my stage 2 ER/PR + HER2- breast cancer. I had macro in one lymph node ( six were removed..5 had nothing in them). They said no chemo & radiation. Do I need to ask them to do the MammaPrint test also? I just want to make sure we're doing everything we can do sothis doesn't return.

    Hi Penguin,

I can't answer the question between the two tests, but I only had the Oncotype done also. That was three years ago. I did not know anything about Mammaprint back then either. I'm glad your number came back low on the Oncotype. Mine was a 9 and also no chemo or rads for me. (I had a double mastectomy)

We have some very knowledgeable members, I am sure someone can you give you further information. I will be following.

    :)

Hi Penguin, pretty much same thing for me as Beach’s experience- my oncotype was 6 on the ILC breast and 11 on the IDC one, I also had BMX,, no node involvement, this was a few months ago. No Mammoprint was ordered. No chemo or radiation. What surgery did you have?

The only reason I have seen folks do Mammaprint AFTER Oncotype was if they got the dreaded “middle range” on Oncotype and couldn’t decide what to do. Yours is pretty definitively low and you have had multiple oncologists at a very good hospital tell you they don’t recommend chemo (or radiation with the single micro node.) How old are you? The only reason (in general) that MOs typically recommend chemo with low Oncotype is if you are young at diagnosis

Hi—I had a score of 10–had macro in one node. 43 years old. No chemo but MO recommended oopherectomy or ovary suppression and an Aromatase inhibitor

My MO didn't like oncotype because of middle range. He chose Mammaprint because it is low risk or high risk.
